Flonida 1% Cream is an anti-cancer medicine used to treat skin conditions such as keratosis (growths of skin), some simple skin cancers, keratoacanthoma (a firm nodule on the skin), and Bowen’s disease. It may also be useful in the treatment of superficial basal cell carcinoma.

Flonida 1% Cream contains ‘Fluorouracil’, which works by destroying cancerous and pre-cancerous cells whilst having little effect on the normal cells.

Depending on your medical condition, you should use Flonida 1% Cream for as long as your doctor has prescribed it. In some cases, Flonida 1% Cream may cause side effects such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and taste disturbance. Do not be reluctant to talk with your doctor if any of these side effects persist or worsen.

Avoid using Flonida 1% Cream if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or breastfeeding. Flonida 1% Cream is not recommended for children under 18 years. Do not cover the treated skin with dressings. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition and medications to rule out any side effects/interactions.

Flonida 1% Cream is used in the treatment of Keratosis/multiple actinic or solar keratosis, some simple skin cancers, keratoacanthoma, Bowen’s disease, and superficial basal cell carcinoma. The detailed uses of Flonida 1% Cream are as follows:

• Treat actinic keratosis (solar keratosis): Flonida 1% Cream targets abnormal skin cells caused by prolonged sun exposure, promoting their destruction and renewal. It helps prevent progression to squamous cell carcinoma by clearing precancerous lesions.
• Manage superficial basal cell carcinoma: Flonida 1% Cream interferes with DNA synthesis in cancerous cells within the outer skin layer, making it effective for low-risk basal cell cancers when surgical options aren’t feasible.
• Treat Bowen’s disease (squamous cell carcinoma in situ): Flonida 1% Cream is applied topically to eliminate early-stage cancerous cells confined to the epidermis, offering a non-invasive treatment alternative.

• Follow your doctor’s instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication to ensure safety.
• Apply a thin layer of the medicine onto the affected area as advised by the doctor.
• Flonida 1% Cream is for external use only.
• Do not cover the treated skin with dressings unless advised by the doctor.

Do not use Flonida 1% Cream if you are allergic to any of its components, if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or if you are breastfeeding. Inform your doctor if you have reduced or no activity of the DPD (dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase) enzyme or if you are using medicines to treat chickenpox or shingles (brivudine, sorivudine) or have used them in the last four weeks. Avoid contact with Flonida 1% Cream by eyes or mouth. Take special care while applying Flonida 1% Cream around the eyelids, nose, or lips. Do not use the cream on open cuts as it can lead to too much absorption of cream into the bloodstream, leading to harmful effects. Avoid smoking or going near naked flames as the fabric (clothing, bedding, or dressing) that has been in contact with Flonida 1% Cream burns easily and is a serious fire hazard. Washing the fabric may not totally remove it, but it might reduce product build-up.
