About Folitrax LP 1% Gel

Folitrax LP 1% Gel belongs to the class of medicines called 'anti-metabolites and immunosuppressants' used to treat severe psoriasis. Psoriasis is a skin disorder in which skin cells multiply faster than usual. This causes scaling, redness, and thickness of the skin. Psoriatic patches generally occur on the knees, elbows, scalp, and lower back.

Folitrax LP 1% Gel contains 'Methotrexate', which works by suppressing the overactive immune system that is responsible for causing psoriasis.

In some cases, Folitrax LP 1% Gel may cause common side-effects such as nausea, vomiting, fatigue, mouth sores, and loss of appetite. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

Consult your doctor if you have a weak immune system, low blood cell count, liver or kidney problems. Do not use Folitrax LP 1% Gel if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid consuming alcohol whilst on treatment with Folitrax LP 1% Gel. Inform your doctor about your medications and health condition to rule out any unpleasant side effects/interactions.

Storage

• Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight.• Keep Folitrax LP 1% Gel out of reach and sight of children.• Non cold chain - To be stored in cool places at 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.
Side effects of Folitrax LP 1% Gel 20 gm
  • Rash caused by allergies is due to irritants or allergens. Therefore, avoid contact with such irritants.
  • Consult your doctor for proper medication and apply an anti-itch medication. Follow the schedule and use the medication whenever needed.
  • Protect your skin from extreme heat and try to apply wet compresses.
  • Soak in the cool bath, which gives a soothing impact to the affected area.

What if I have taken an overdose of Folitrax LP 1% Gel

Use Folitrax LP 1% Gel in prescribed dosage only. An overdose of Folitrax LP 1% Gel may cause symptoms like a burning sensation of the skin, pruritus, urticaria, ecchymosis and reversible alopecia, sloughing over pressure points, acute ulcerations of psoriatic plaques, severe mucositis, and reactivation of phototoxic responses. Seek emergency medical help if you face any of these symptoms.

Drug Warnings

Do not use Folitrax LP 1% Gel if you are allergic to any of the contents. Avoid using Folitrax LP 1% Gel if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Inform your doctor if you have immunodeficiency conditions, bone marrow problems, low white blood cell count, low platelet count, serious anaemia, liver or kidney problems, ulceration in the stomach or bowels, poor general condition, received any vaccinations or if are due to have any, diabetes, ascites (fluid in the stomach area), lung problems or fluid in the lungs.
