Lazid-N Tablet is used for the treatment of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection. It contains lamivudine, zidovudine, and nevirapine. This medication works by preventing HIV (the virus) from multiplying, thereby reducing the amount of virus in your body and also increasing the CD4 cell count (white blood cells that protect against infection) in your blood. It may cause common side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, heartburn, depression, cough, stuffy nose, joint pain, and insomnia (difficulty falling asleep). Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and any pre-existing medical conditions. It can cause birth defects, so use effective contraception while taking this medicine and for 12 weeks after stopping it.

About Lazid-N Tablet

Lazid-N Tablet is a prescription oral tablet used to manage Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV-1) infection in adults and children. It is prescribed to help control the virus, protect the immune system, and lower the risk of developing acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).

To ensure maximum effectiveness, you must take Lazid-N Tablet consistently at the same times every day, either with or without food. Maintaining a regular schedule helps keep a steady level of the medicine in your blood, preventing the virus from multiplying. Incorporating a nutrient-rich diet and reducing physical stress can further support your immune system during treatment.

While taking Lazid-N Tablet , some people may experience mild side effects like nausea, headaches, or tiredness. However, you must contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe skin rashes, yellowing of your skin or eyes, or dark urine, as these can be signs of serious medical complications.

Before starting Lazid-N Tablet , talk to your doctor if you have a history of liver disease, kidney problems, or low red blood cell counts. Do not take this if you have severe liver damage, extremely low white blood cell levels, or if you have previously had a severe allergic reaction to any of the active ingredients.

Lazid-N Tablet can interact with alcohol, which increases the risk of liver damage, and certain other prescription drugs that can lower its effectiveness. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, breastfeeding, or are an older adult, consult your doctor to discuss the risks and benefits before starting treatment.

How Lazid-N Tablet Works

Lazid-N Tablet is a combination of three medications: lamivudine, zidovudine, and nevirapine. Lamivudine and zidovudine are nucleosidase reverse transcriptase inhibitors that work together to decrease the amount of virus in your body by inhibiting HIV reverse transcription through viral DNA chain termination. Nevirapine is a non-nucleosidase reverse transcriptase inhibitor that works by lowering the amount of HIV in the blood. Lazid-N Tablet  will not cure HIV infection or AIDS; however, it helps keep HIV from reproducing and appears to slow down the destruction of the immune system.

Storage

• Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight. • Keep out of sight and reach of children. • Non cold chain - To be stored in cool places at 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.

Drug Warnings

  • Monitor for skin reactions: Check your skin regularly, especially during the first 6 to 8 weeks of treatment, when the risk of serious nevirapine-related skin reactions is highest. Seek medical attention immediately if you develop a rash, particularly if it is accompanied by fever, mouth sores, blistering, or facial swelling.
  • Attend regular monitoring appointments: Keep all scheduled follow-up visits. Your doctor may monitor your viral load, CD4 cell count, liver function, kidney function, and blood cell counts to ensure your treatment remains safe and effective.
  • Do not miss doses or stop treatment abruptly: Take your medicine exactly as prescribed. Missing doses or stopping treatment without medical advice can allow HIV to multiply and increase the risk of drug resistance, making future treatment less effective.
  • Follow the prescribed dosing schedule carefully: Some patients may start nevirapine with a lower lead-in dose for the first 14 days to help reduce the risk of skin rash before moving to the regular maintenance dose. Always follow your doctor's instructions regarding dosing.
  • Use with caution in children: In children, the dose is usually based on body weight and individual treatment needs. Parents and caregivers should follow the prescribing doctor's instructions carefully and should never adjust the dose without medical advice.

HIV is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). There is currently no effective cure. But with proper medical care, HIV can be controlled. Some people have flu-like symptoms within 2 to 4 weeks after infection (called acute HIV infection). These symptoms may last for a few days or several weeks. Possible symptoms include fever, chills, rash, muscle aches, night sweats, fatigue, sore throat, mouth ulcers, and swollen lymph nodes.
Some medicines in this combination, including lamivudine and zidovudine, have been widely used during pregnancy as part of HIV treatment and prevention of mother-to-child transmission. However, nevirapine requires careful consideration because certain pregnant women, particularly those with higher CD4 cell counts, may have an increased risk of serious liver-related side effects. Your doctor will carefully evaluate your health status, treatment history, and pregnancy needs before recommending the most appropriate antiretroviral regimen. Do not start, stop, or change HIV medicines during pregnancy without medical supervision.
If you develop any rash while taking Lazid-N Tablet , contact your doctor immediately, as some rashes can become severe and life-threatening if ignored.

IRIS is a condition that can occur during the first weeks or months after starting effective HIV treatment. As your immune system begins to recover, it may produce a stronger inflammatory response against existing infections that were previously hidden or inactive. This can temporarily make symptoms appear worse even though the HIV treatment is working. Contact your doctor if you develop new fever, swollen lymph nodes, worsening cough, unexplained weight loss, or other new symptoms after starting treatment, so the cause can be properly evaluated.
