About Linezolid Tablet

Linezolid Tablet is used to treat bacterial infections in children. It is used in treating skin, throat, ear, bones, urinary tract infections, and lung infections caused by bacteria. A bacterial infection occurs when harmful bacteria enter and grow in the body. This bacteria can infect any part of the body and multiply very quickly. This medicine is also used in the treatment of resistant tubercular infections. Linezolid Tablet effectively treats infections caused by bacteria only and does not treat viral infections like flu or a common cold.

Linezolid Tablet contains Linezolid belonging to the oxazolidinones class of drugs. It works by inhibiting the formation of the bacterial cell wall (a protective covering) and causing damage to the bacterial cell wall. This eventually leads to the death of the bacterial cell and thus prevents the growth of bacterial infections. 

Linezolid Tablet may cause certain side effects, such as indigestion, diarrhoea, nausea, metallic taste, vomiting, headache, and stomach pain. These side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your paediatrician. Linezolid Tablet should be given to your child as advised by your doctor. Do not give the child more than the prescribed dose of Linezolid Tablet . Generally, the dose of the medicine will be decided by your paediatrician depending upon the type and severity of the infection.

Linezolid Tablet is intended for pediatric use only. Avoid giving Linezolid Tablet to your child if she/he is allergic to antibiotics. Linezolid Tablet comes in the form of powder. Firstly, shake the container and open the cap. Add sterile water and mix well. Add more sterile water if required to make up to the mark. This reconstituted liquid should be given to your child within seven days of preparation. When not in use, store the bottle in the refrigerator.

What if I have taken an overdose of Linezolid Tablet

Do not take more than the prescribed dose. Using more medication will not improve your symptoms; instead, they may cause serious side effects or poisoning. If you suspect that you may have overdosed of Linezolid Tablet or observe any side effects, please go to the emergency department of the closest hospital or nursing home. No specific side effects have been reported under these circumstances.

Avoid giving Linezolid Tablet to your child if she/he is allergic to it. Keep your paediatrician informed about your child’s health condition including their previous medications and medical history to rule out any side effects/interactions. Before administration, inform the paediatrician about all the OTC medicines including other vitamin supplements that your child is taking. Taking Linezolid Tablet with Methylphenidate together may increase the risk or severity of high blood pressure.

Taking Linezolid Tablet with Methylphenidate is generally avoided as it can result in an interaction, it can be taken if a doctor has advised it. However, if you experience sudden and severe headaches, blurred vision, confusion, seizures, chest pain, nausea or vomiting, sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body), speech difficulties, fever, sweating, lightheadedness, and/or fainting, contact a doctor immediately. Consult a doctor, if you experience severe headache, confusion, blurred vision, problems with speech or balance, nausea, vomiting, chest pain, convulsions, and sudden numbness or weakness (especially on one side of the body).
