About MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION

MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION is a paediatric medicine that combines paracetamol and mefenamic acid (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAID). It is used to relieve mild to moderate pain and reduce fever in children. Seeing your child unwell can be worrying, but giving MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION exactly as prescribed and ensuring your child gets enough rest and fluids can help support their recovery. MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION should only be given to children of the age recommended by your doctor or according to the approved product information and is generally not recommended for infants below 6 months of age unless specifically prescribed.

Give MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION to your child exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the product label. Giving each dose at the recommended time helps provide consistent pain and fever relief. Always give this oral liquid with food or milk to reduce the chance of stomach irritation. Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids and get adequate rest while recovering.

Most children tolerate MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION well, although some may develop mild side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, drowsiness, or stomach discomfort. These effects usually improve as MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION leaves your child's system over the next few hours. Seek immediate medical attention if your child develops severe stomach pain, vomits blood, has black stools, develops a severe skin rash, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, or yellowing of the eyes or skin.

Before giving MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION, tell your doctor if your child has liver disease, kidney disease, asthma, stomach ulcers, bleeding disorders, G6PD deficiency (a genetic condition that affects red blood cells), or has ever had an allergic reaction to paracetamol, mefenamic acid, aspirin, or other NSAIDs. Do not give MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION to children with active stomach bleeding, severe liver or kidney disease, or a known allergy to any of its ingredients. It is generally not recommended for infants below 6 months of age unless specifically prescribed.

Some medicines may interact with MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION and increase the risk of side effects or reduce how well it works. Inform your doctor about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, vitamins, and supplements your child is taking before starting treatment. If you are unsure whether another medicine contains paracetamol or another pain reliever, ask your doctor or pharmacist before giving it to your child.

How MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION Works

MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION contains Mefenamic Acid and Paracetamol. Mefenamic Acid: It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that helps relieve pain and reduce inflammation by blocking the production of prostaglandins, the natural chemicals responsible for pain, swelling, and soreness. This helps reduce discomfort associated with conditions such as fever, toothache, earache, or musculoskeletal pain. Paracetamol: It is a pain reliever and fever-reducing medicine that works mainly in the brain to reduce the perception of pain and lower body temperature. This helps relieve pain and brings down fever, making your child feel more comfortable.

FAQs

MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION is used to treat Pain and Fever.
Mefenamic acid (NSAID) and Paracetamol (antipyretic). Mefenamic acid works by blocking the effect of a chemical known as prostaglandin, which is responsible for inducing pain and inflammation in our body. Paracetamol lowers elevated body temperature and mild pain by inhibiting the synthesis of a chemical messenger (prostaglandin) and promoting heat loss (through sweating).
The side effects of MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION include nausea, indigestion, stomach pain and diarrhoea. If these side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
Yes, MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION is safe to use in the prescribed dose and duration. The patient should follow the doctor’s recommendations.
MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION is generally used for short term and can be stopped when the pain is relieved. However, it should be continued for as long as it is advised by your doctor.
MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION is contraindicated in patients with known allergy to painkillers (NSAIDS) or any of the components or excipients of this medicine. Also, let the doctor know if the patient has kidney or liver disease.
You are recommended to consult your doctor before giving MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION to your child with vitamin B-complex or other supplements.
Yes, the long-term use of MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION can cause damage to the kidneys. Normal kidneys produce prostaglandins, a chemical that protects them from damage. Long-term use of painkillers lowers the prostaglandin levels in the body, leading to kidney damage. Therefore, painkillers are not recommended for patients with underlying kidney disease.
No, taking higher than the recommended dose of MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION may increase the risk of side effects such as nausea, vomiting, indigestion, heartburn, diarrhoea and can also harm the kidneys when used for an extended period of time. If your child's pain is not relieved by the recommended doses or if your child experiences increased severity of pain, please consult your doctor.
Store MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION below 25°C. Protect from light. Keep it out of reach and sight of children.
It is best to give MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION with food or milk, as it helps reduce the chance of stomach irritation. If your child refuses to eat or is unable to keep food down, speak to your doctor or pharmacist for advice before giving the next dose.
If your child vomits shortly after taking a dose, do not automatically give another dose. Contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice, as the need to repeat the dose depends on how long after taking MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION your child vomited. Seek medical advice if vomiting continues or your child cannot keep fluids down.
Check the ingredient list carefully before giving any cough, cold, or fever medicine. Many of these products already contain paracetamol, and using them together may lead to an accidental overdose. If you are unsure, ask your doctor or pharmacist before combining medicines.
The safe period after opening depends on the specific product and manufacturer. Always check the package insert or bottle label for the recommended shelf life after opening. If this information is unclear, ask your pharmacist before continuing to use MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION.
It is generally not recommended to give fever-reducing medicines before vaccination unless your doctor advises it. If your child develops fever or pain after vaccination, use MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION only as directed by your healthcare provider.
Some children with asthma may be sensitive to NSAIDs such as mefenamic acid, which can occasionally worsen breathing symptoms. Tell your doctor if your child has asthma before starting MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION so they can decide whether it is appropriate.
If your child's fever lasts for more than 3 days, pain lasts for more than 5 days, or symptoms become worse or are accompanied by difficulty breathing, repeated vomiting, severe drowsiness, dehydration, seizures, or a persistent high fever, seek medical evaluation promptly. These symptoms may indicate an underlying illness that requires further assessment and treatment.
Do not give MEFANORM PLUS SUSPENSION with other medicines containing paracetamol or another NSAID (such as ibuprofen or naproxen) unless your doctor specifically advises it. Using similar medicines together increases the risk of side effects, including liver damage, stomach irritation, or bleeding.
