METAFER XT TABLET is used to treat anaemia (lack of blood) that occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food, or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). It contains Ferrous ascorbate and Folic acid, which work by increasing red blood cells (RBC) and haemoglobin (a protein) production in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBCs is produced in the body, so that each tissue in the body gets a sufficient supply of oxygen. In some cases, it may cause side effects such as vomiting, nausea, stomach upset, or dark-coloured stool. Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions.

About METAFER XT TABLET

METAFER XT TABLET is used to treat anaemia (lack of blood) that occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food, or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). Anaemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to various tissues throughout the body.

METAFER XT TABLET is a combination of two drugs: Ferrous ascorbate and folic acid. METAFER XT TABLET works by increasing the production of red blood cells (RBCs) and haemoglobin (a protein) in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBCs is produced in the body so that each tissue gets a sufficient supply of oxygen.

Not everyone who is taking METAFER XT TABLET will get these side effects. In some cases, you may experience vomiting, nausea, stomach upset or dark coloured stool. Most of these side effects of METAFER XT TABLET do not require medical attention and typically resolve on their own over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Take METAFER XT TABLET orally 1 hour before food or 2 hours after food or as directed by your doctor, typically once daily in the morning. The dosage of the medicine is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. It is advised to complete your treatment course for better results.

If you are allergic to METAFER XT TABLET or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before using METAFER XT TABLET . METAFER XT TABLET should be used with caution in children and only if recommended by a doctor. METAFER XT TABLET may contain lactose. Therefore, inform your doctor if you have an allergy to any sugars before taking METAFER XT TABLET . Although taking Cholestyramine and Metafer Xt Tablet together can result in an interaction, they can be taken together if prescribed by a doctor. Although there is a possible interaction between Metafer Xt Tablet and Fluorouracil, you can take these medicines together if prescribed by your doctor. However, if you experience diarrhoea, paleness of skin, severe nausea and vomiting, over-tiredness, dizziness, fainting, blood in the stools, unusual bleeding or bruising, fever, chills, body pains, flu-like symptoms, skin reactions, mouth ulcers or sores, and/or numbness, burning or tingling in your hands and feet, contact your doctor.

METAFER XT TABLET is used for the treatment of anaemia.

You are not recommended to take METAFER XT TABLET with coffee, tea or dairy products at the same time as they may reduce the absorption of METAFER XT TABLET . However, you may drink coffee or tea 2 hours before or after taking METAFER XT TABLET .

You are not recommended to take METAFER XT TABLET with phenytoin as co-administration of these two medicines may reduce the concentration of METAFER XT TABLET in blood and increase the risk of seizures (fits). However, please consult a doctor before taking METAFER XT TABLET with phenytoin.

METAFER XT TABLET is not recommended for hemochromatosis (excessive iron in the body) patients as it may increase the risk of adverse effects. Therefore, it is advised to inform your doctor if you have any iron overload conditions before taking METAFER XT TABLET .
