It contains Pioglitazone and Metformin, which decrease blood sugar by decreasing its formation and increasing its consumption by cells, thereby lowering high blood sugar levels. It is used in adults to treat type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus when treatment with metformin alone is not sufficient. Some people may experience side effects such as stomach aches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, localized swelling (oedema), weight gain, headache, respiratory infection, numbness, taste disturbance, etc. Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions.

About Piodart MF 15mg/500mg Tablet

Piodart MF 15mg/500mg Tablet belongs to the group of medicines called anti-diabetic drugs used to treat type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes mellitus used to be known as 'non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM)' or 'maturity-onset diabetes'. Type 2 diabetes develops if the body does not produce enough insulin or when the insulin that your body makes does not work as well as it should. It can also develop if the body produces too much glucagon. Insulin is a substance that helps to lower the level of sugar in your blood, especially after meals.

Piodart MF 15mg/500mg Tablet contains Pioglitazone (thiazolidinediones) & Metformin (biguanides). Pioglitazone decreases blood sugar and reverses the effects of Type II diabetes by activating switches (PPAR) inside cells to take up free glucose from the blood and decrease its levels in the blood. Metformin, on the other hand, decreases blood sugar by decreasing its formation and increasing its consumption by cells, thereby decreasing high blood sugar levels. Piodart MF 15mg/500mg Tablet is used in adults to treat type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus when treatment with metformin alone is not sufficient.

Piodart MF 15mg/500mg Tablet should be taken with food to avoid an upset stomach. Piodart MF 15mg/500mg Tablet should be taken at the same time of the day each time for best results. For better advice, your doctor will decide what dose should be taken, and it can change timely depending upon your condition. Some people may have stomach aches, feeling sick (Nausea), vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, localized swelling (oedema), weight gain, headache, respiratory infection, numbness, taste disturbance, etc. Most of these side effects of Piodart MF 15mg/500mg Tablet do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Piodart MF 15mg/500mg Tablet should not be stopped even if you feel better, without consulting your doctor as your sugar level keeps changing. If you stop taking Piodart MF 15mg/500mg Tablet abruptly, it may increase your sugar levels, which could further increase the risk of eyesight loss (retinopathy), kidney (nephropathy) and nerve damage (neuropathy). Piodart MF 15mg/500mg Tablet should not be taken if you have type 1 diabetes mellitus or severe kidney or liver disease. Please inform your doctor if you have any heart disease, are or are planning to get pregnant or are breastfeeding.

Side effects of Piodart MF 15mg/500mg Tablet
Here are the steps to manage the medication-triggered Upper respiratory tract infection:
  • Inform your doctor about the symptoms you're experiencing due to medication.
  • Your doctor may adjust your treatment plan, which could include changing your medication, adding new medications, or offering advice on managing your symptoms.
  • Practice good hygiene, including frequent handwashing, avoiding close contact with others, and avoiding sharing utensils or personal items.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids to help loosen and clear mucus from your nose, throat, and airways.
  • Get plenty of rest and engage in stress-reducing activities to help your body recover. If your symptoms don't subside or worsen, consult your doctor for further guidance.
Here are the precise steps to cope with diarrhoea caused by medication usage:
  • Inform Your Doctor: Notify your doctor immediately about your diarrhoea symptoms. This allows them to adjust your medication or provide guidance on managing side effects.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids to replace lost water and electrolytes. Choose water, clear broth, and electrolyte-rich drinks. Avoid carbonated or caffeinated beverages to effectively rehydrate your body.
  • Follow a Bland Diet: Eat easy-to-digest foods to help firm up your stool and settle your stomach. Try incorporating bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, plain crackers, and boiled vegetables into your diet.
  • Avoid Trigger Foods: Steer clear of foods that can worsen diarrhoea, such as spicy, fatty, or greasy foods, high-fibre foods, and dairy products (especially if you're lactose intolerant).

  • Keep track of your diarrhoea symptoms. If they don't get better or worse or are accompanied by severe stomach pain, blood, or dehydration signs (like extreme thirst or dark urine), seek medical help.
  • Wear compression garments like stockings, sleeves, or gloves to apply pressure and help stop fluid from building up, especially after the swelling goes down.
  • Move around and do exercises to help the fluid circulate, especially in swollen limbs. Ask your doctor for specific exercises.
  • Raise the swollen area above your heart level several times a day, even while sleeping, to help reduce swelling.
  • Gently massage the swollen area with firm but not painful pressure.
  • Keep the swollen area clean and moisturized to prevent injury and infection.
