Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml belongs to the class of drugs called antipsychotics used in the treatment of schizophrenia. Also, it is used to control motor and speech tics of Tourette’s disorder. Schizophrenia affects the ability of a person to feel, think and behave clearly. Tourette's syndrome is a mental disorder characterized by uncontrollable, repetitive movements or unwanted sounds (tics). 

Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml contains Haloperidol which blocks the dopamine receptors in the brain, preventing its overactivity, thereby controlling psychotic illnesses and improving disturbed thoughts, behaviour and feelings in mental conditions such as schizophrenia.

Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml will be administered by a healthcare professional; do not self-administer. Sometimes, Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml may cause common side effects such as drowsiness, tremors, neck stiffness, nausea or vomiting, increased salivation, and weight gain. Most of these side effects of Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Haloperidol or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, inform your doctor before receiving Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml. Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml is not recommended for children. Dose adjustment may be required for elderly or physically unwell patients. Avoid driving until your doctor says it is safe, as Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml may impair your physical or mental abilities required for driving. You are recommended to avoid alcohol consumption with Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml as it may increase the effects of alcohol.

Drug-Drug Interaction: If you are taking medicines used to control mood swings or depression (nefazodone, venlafaxine, buspirone, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine, sertraline, lithium, chlorpromazine, citalopram, escitalopram, alprazolam), antipsychotics, antifungals (itraconazole, ketoconazole, pentamidine), medicines known to cause electrolyte imbalance, strong painkillers or tranquillisers, medicines used to treat irregular heartbeat (amiodarone, sotalol, quinidine, disopyramide), antibiotics (rifampicin, erythromycin, moxifloxacin, levofloxacin), medicines for Parkinson’s disease (levodopa), anticonvulsants (carbamazepine, phenobarbital), antimalarial (halofantrine), gastrointestinal medicines (dolasetron), anticancer drugs (toremifene, vandetanib), or HIV drugs (ritonavir), inform your doctor before receiving Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml.

Drug-Food Interaction: Inform your doctor if you are taking St. John's Wort (herbal medicine used to treat depression).

Drug-Disease Interaction: Avoid receiving Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml if you have severe depression, severe drowsiness due to illness, medicine or alcohol, Parkinson’s disease, spastic diseases, Lewy body dementia, or progressive supranuclear palsy (brain disorder). If you have dementia-related psychosis, have ever had bleeding in the brain, heart problems, low blood pressure, QT prolongation (rare heart disorder), tardive dyskinesia (uncontrolled movements of the mouth, tongue, cheeks or jaw), hyperthyroidism (very active thyroid gland), extremely high blood pressure, a sudden increase in body temperature, severe convulsions, liver disease, have or ever had fits, blood clots, inform your doctor before receiving Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml.

• Limit the intake of caffeine as it may reduce the effectiveness of Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml.
• Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Eat more fish, especially oily fish such as salmon, sardines, trout, mackerel, pilchards and herring.
• Cut down on sugars, salt and saturated fats.
• Drink adequate water to keep the body hydrated.
• Exercise regularly and maintain a stable weight as Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml may cause weight gain.
• Avoid the consumption of alcohol as it may increase drowsiness.

• Elderly patients (more than 65 years of age) with dementia-related psychosis treated with Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml can be at an increased risk of death. 

• Psychodol LA 50 mg Injection 1 ml is not approved for the treatment of patients with dementia-related psychosis.
