Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml

Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml belongs to the class of drugs called antipsychotics used in the treatment of schizophrenia. Also, it is used to control motor and speech tics of Tourette’s disorder. Schizophrenia affects the ability of a person to feel, think and behave clearly. Tourette's syndrome is a mental disorder characterized by uncontrollable, repetitive movements or unwanted sounds (tics). 

Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml contains Haloperidol which blocks the dopamine receptors in the brain, preventing its overactivity, thereby controlling psychotic illnesses and improving disturbed thoughts, behaviour and feelings in mental conditions such as schizophrenia.

Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml will be administered by a healthcare professional; do not self-administer. Sometimes, Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml may cause common side effects such as drowsiness, tremors, neck stiffness, nausea or vomiting, increased salivation, and weight gain. Most of these side effects of Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Haloperidol or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, inform your doctor before receiving Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml . Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml is not recommended for children. Dose adjustment may be required for elderly or physically unwell patients. Avoid driving until your doctor says it is safe, as Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml may impair your physical or mental abilities required for driving. You are recommended to avoid alcohol consumption with Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml as it may increase the effects of alcohol.

Schizophrenia

Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml contains Haloperidol, an antipsychotic used in the treatment of schizophrenia. It works by blocking the dopamine receptors in the brain, preventing its overactivity, thereby controlling psychotic illnesses and improving disturbed thoughts, behaviour and feelings in mental conditions such as schizophrenia. Thus, Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml improves overall behaviour and thoughts and helps in having a better social life and comfortably doing daily activities. Additionally, Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml is used to control motor and speech tics in Tourette's syndrome (a nervous system problem that causes unwanted sounds or sudden movements).

Drug-Drug Interaction: If you are taking medicines used to control mood swings or depression (nefazodone, venlafaxine, buspirone, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine, sertraline, lithium, chlorpromazine, citalopram, escitalopram, alprazolam), antipsychotics, antifungals (itraconazole, ketoconazole, pentamidine), medicines known to cause electrolyte imbalance, strong painkillers or tranquillisers, medicines used to treat irregular heartbeat (amiodarone, sotalol, quinidine, disopyramide), antibiotics (rifampicin, erythromycin, moxifloxacin, levofloxacin), medicines for Parkinson’s disease (levodopa), anticonvulsants (carbamazepine, phenobarbital), antimalarial (halofantrine), gastrointestinal medicines (dolasetron), anticancer drugs (toremifene, vandetanib), or HIV drugs (ritonavir), inform your doctor before receiving Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml .

Drug-Food Interaction: Inform your doctor if you are taking St. John's Wort (herbal medicine used to treat depression).

Drug-Disease Interaction: Avoid receiving Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml if you have severe depression, severe drowsiness due to illness, medicine or alcohol, Parkinson’s disease, spastic diseases, Lewy body dementia, or progressive supranuclear palsy (brain disorder). If you have dementia-related psychosis, have ever had bleeding in the brain, heart problems, low blood pressure, QT prolongation (rare heart disorder), tardive dyskinesia (uncontrolled movements of the mouth, tongue, cheeks or jaw), hyperthyroidism (very active thyroid gland), extremely high blood pressure, a sudden increase in body temperature, severe convulsions, liver disease, have or ever had fits, blood clots, inform your doctor before receiving Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml .

• Limit the intake of caffeine as it may reduce the effectiveness of Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml .
• Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Eat more fish, especially oily fish such as salmon, sardines, trout, mackerel, pilchards and herring.
• Cut down on sugars, salt and saturated fats.
• Drink adequate water to keep the body hydrated.
• Exercise regularly and maintain a stable weight as Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml may cause weight gain.
• Avoid the consumption of alcohol as it may increase drowsiness.

• Elderly patients (more than 65 years of age) with dementia-related psychosis treated with Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml can be at an increased risk of death. 

• Serenace Injection 5 x 1 ml is not approved for the treatment of patients with dementia-related psychosis. 

Schizophrenia: It is a mental disorder that affects a person's ability to feel, think and behave clearly. Mania is a mental condition that causes intense excitement, high energy, and delusions (misbeliefs). Mania may occur due to lack of sleep or sleep pattern changes, high levels of stress, and alcohol intake. Seek medical help immediately if you have any self-harming or suicidal thoughts.
