About TANTUM 5% GEL
TANTUM 5% GEL belongs to a group of medicines known as 'pain killers' primarily used to relieve pain, discomfort, and inflammation of the mouth, gums, and throat. It is used to treat oral mucositis (inflammation due to radiotherapy or chemotherapy), and mouth sores.
TANTUM 5% GEL contains Benzydamine, which relieves pain and discomfort. It works by blocking the release of chemicals (prostaglandins) that mediate pain sensation and inflammation. It also forms a coating over the sores, thereby providing relief from pain, discomfort, and symptoms of inflammation, such as redness, swelling, or a burning sensation, associated with mouth ulcers. Hence, it helps with daily activities.
In some cases, you may experience common side effects, such as a burning sensation and skin irritation at the site of application. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.
Do not take TANTUM 5% GEL if you are allergic to TANTUM 5% GEL, its ingredients, pain killers (NSAIDs), or local anaesthetics. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you notice any skin rash or experience asthma, it could be due to an allergic reaction. Do not use the TANTUM 5% GEL mouthwash continuously for more than 7 days unless recommended by your doctor or dentist. It is not recommended for use in children.
