About TOCIN OINTMENT

TOCIN OINTMENT belongs to the class of aminoglycoside antibiotics. It is used for the treatment of bacterial eye infections. Bacterial eye infection occurs when harmful bacteria invade any part of the eye, such as the eyeball, conjunctiva, or cornea.

TOCIN OINTMENT contains tobramycin, an antibiotic that works by killing the infection-causing bacteria. Thus TOCIN OINTMENT treats bacterial eye infections.

Use TOCIN OINTMENT as prescribed by your doctor. The common side-effects of TOCIN OINTMENT are eye irritation, feeling of having something in the eye, swollen/itchy eyelids, eye redness, increased tearing and inflammation of the cornea (clear front portion of your eye). Most of these side effects fade away gradually over time without the need for medical intervention. However, consult your doctor if you experience these side effects frequently.

TOCIN OINTMENT is for ophthalmic (eye) use only. Do not use TOCIN OINTMENT if you are allergic to tobramycin, other aminoglycoside antibiotics, or any components in TOCIN OINTMENT. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, notify your doctor. TOCIN OINTMENT may temporarily blur your vision; therefore, wait until your vision is back to normal before using any machinery or driving.

  • Corneal Ulcers:TOCIN OINTMENT is used in combination with other antibiotics to treat corneal ulcers, especially those caused by bacterial infections.

Directions for Use

  • Follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication.
  • Lie down and tilt your head backwards. Gently pull your lower eyelid with your index finger to form a pocket. Squeeze a tiny amount of the cream/ointment into the pocket of the lower eyelid. Close your eyes for 1-2 minutes.
  • TOCIN OINTMENT is for ophthalmic use only.
  • Do not touch the tip of the tube or other dispensing tip to any surface, as this may contaminate the ointment.
  • If the ointment becomes discoloured, it should be discarded.

What if I have taken an overdose of TOCIN OINTMENT

If you accidentally put too much TOCIN OINTMENT in your eyes, rinse your eyes with lukewarm water immediately.

  • Get at least eight hours of sleep each night to naturally refresh your eyes.
  • Wash your eyes with clean water at least twice or thrice daily. If you had eye surgery, wash your eyes after two weeks.
  • Take care of your health by eating a well-balanced diet, exercising regularly, and getting plenty of rest.
  • If you wear contact lenses, clean and replace them more frequently. Never share your contact lenses. Always wash your hands before and after inserting and removing contact lenses.
  • Avoid gazing at digital screens for extended periods. For every 20 minutes, take a break.
  • Blink frequently to aid in transmitting hydrating substances like mucus and tears across the eyes.

What if you forget to take TOCIN OINTMENT

Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and use your next dose. Do not use a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

Storage

• Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight. • Keep TOCIN OINTMENT out of sight and reach of children. • Non cold chain - To be stored in cool places at 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.

Do not use if you are allergic to tobramycin, another aminoglycoside antibiotic, or any of the components of TOCIN OINTMENT. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor. You may have temporary blurred vision after using TOCIN OINTMENT; consequently, wait until your vision returns to normal before driving or operating any machinery. Before using TOCIN OINTMENT, notify your doctor if you have vision problems or severe eye pain. Do not use TOCIN OINTMENT while you are wearing contact lenses.

TOCIN OINTMENT contains tobramycin, an antibiotic that works by killing the infection-causing bacteria. Thus TOCIN OINTMENT treats bacterial eye infections.
If you mistakenly put too much eye ointment in your eye(s), rinse them promptly with lukewarm water.
Even if your symptoms improve, you must continue to use TOCIN OINTMENT for the indicated treatment period. If you quit using TOCIN OINTMENT abruptly, your symptoms may return.
Use TOCIN OINTMENT only for the duration recommended by your doctor. Do not use it for more than the recommended duration. Inform your doctor if the eye infection does not improve after three days of using TOCIN OINTMENT.
TOCIN OINTMENT can be used with other eye medications if prescribed by the doctor. Maintain a gap of 15 minutes between TOCIN OINTMENT and other eye medications. Use other eye medications first, wait for 15 minutes and then use TOCIN OINTMENT.
Do not wear contact lenses while using TOCIN OINTMENT. Remove contact lenses before using the TOCIN OINTMENT. It is advised to wear spectacles and avoid contact lenses until the infection is cleared.
TOCIN OINTMENT may temporarily blur the vision. Therefore, wait until your vision is clear before driving or operating machinery to prevent any mishappening.
