TOPCEF DC TABLET is a prescription oral antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections affecting the lungs, throat, skin, urinary tract, and other parts of the body when your doctor considers this combination appropriate. It contains two antibiotics that work together to kill susceptible bacteria. We understand that recovering from a bacterial infection can be uncomfortable and worrying, but taking your medicine correctly gives you the best chance of a full recovery.
For the best results, take TOPCEF DC TABLET exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if you start feeling better after a few days. Most treatment courses last 5 to 10 days, although the exact duration depends on the type and severity of your infection. It is generally recommended to take TOPCEF DC TABLET on an empty stomach, about 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals, because food may reduce the absorption of dicloxacillin. Drinking plenty of fluids, getting enough rest, and eating a balanced diet can also support your recovery.
Most people tolerate TOPCEF DC TABLET well. Mild nausea, stomach upset, loose stools, or diarrhea may occur and usually improve as your body adjusts. However, if you develop severe or persistent watery or bloody diarrhea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or a widespread skin rash, please contact your doctor as soon as possible for urgent medical advice. If you develop signs of a severe allergic reaction such as trouble breathing or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, seek emergency medical care immediately.
Do not take TOPCEF DC TABLET if you are allergic to cefixime, dicloxacillin, penicillin antibiotics, cephalosporin antibiotics, or any of the ingredients in TOPCEF DC TABLET. Tell your doctor before starting treatment if you have weak or damaged kidneys, liver disease, asthma, or a history of severe bowel inflammation (colitis). TOPCEF DC TABLET does not treat viral infections such as the common cold or flu, or fungal infections, and should only be used for confirmed or suspected bacterial infections.
TOPCEF DC TABLET may interact with certain medicines, including blood thinners, methotrexate, gout medicines such as probenecid, and some vaccines. Current evidence suggests that most antibiotics, including this combination, are not proven to reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills, unlike rifampicin. However, if you experience severe vomiting or diarrhea while taking TOPCEF DC TABLET, your contraceptive pill may not be absorbed properly. Speak with your doctor if you have concerns. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, giving TOPCEF DC TABLET to a child, or are an older adult, consult your doctor before use. Children require doses based on their age and body weight, while older adults with kidney problems may need closer monitoring.
