About VIROTRENZ TABLET

VIROTRENZ TABLET is a prescription tablet used to manage Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection in adults and adolescents. It combines three antiviral agents into a single medication to help control the replication of the virus in your body. By keeping the viral load low, it helps protect your immune system from damage and prevents the disease from progressing. Your doctor will choose the most appropriate HIV treatment based on current treatment guidelines, your medical history, and the results of any necessary tests.

To achieve the best results, you must take VIROTRENZ TABLET consistently once every day at the exact same time without missing doses. It is best to take this tablet on an empty stomach, ideally right before bedtime, to minimise certain brain-related side effects. Adopting a nutritious diet, maintaining regular exercise, and avoiding smoking can significantly boost your overall health and treatment success.

While starting this therapy, you may notice mild side effects such as temporary dizziness, trouble sleeping, or mild nausea. However, you must contact your doctor immediately if you develop serious symptoms such as a severe skin rash, persistent low mood, or yellowing of the skin and eyes.

Before you begin taking VIROTRENZ TABLET, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, including hepatitis B, kidney disease, or mental health problems. If you have hepatitis B, your doctor may monitor you closely because stopping this medicine can cause your liver condition to worsen.

This medicine can interact negatively with alcohol, certain herbal products, and other prescription medications, potentially lowering its effectiveness or increasing side effects. Pregnant individuals, breastfeeding mothers, or elderly patients must consult their healthcare provider before using this medicine to ensure it is safe for them.

Uses of VIROTRENZ TABLET

VIROTRENZ TABLET is used to treat HIV-1 infection in treatment-naive patients and in certain people who are changing treatment, as decided by their doctor. It helps control the virus and protect the immune system. It may be prescribed for:

  • HIV-1 Infection: VIROTRENZ TABLET is used to treat HIV-1 by keeping the virus at extremely low levels in the blood, which prevents the virus from damaging your immune cells.
  • Immune System Preservation: By controlling the viral multiplication, this medication allows your body to maintain or increase its CD4 cell count, protecting you against opportunistic infections.

Key Benefits

VIROTRENZ TABLET helps control HIV-1 infection by reducing the amount of virus in the body. Its benefits include:

  • Suppresses HIV Replication: Helps reduce the amount of HIV in the body (viral load), allowing the immune system to function more effectively.
  • Supports Immune Health: By controlling HIV infection, it helps preserve and improve immune function, reducing the risk of opportunistic infections and HIV-related illnesses.
  • Provides Complete Combination Therapy: Combines three antiretroviral medicines in a single tablet, providing comprehensive HIV treatment in one regimen.
  • Simplifies Daily Treatment: The once-daily, single-tablet regimen helps reduce pill burden and supports long-term treatment adherence.
  • Reduces the Risk of HIV Transmission: Maintaining an undetectable viral load through consistent treatment greatly reduces the risk of sexually transmitting HIV to others, although it does not eliminate the need for appropriate preventive measures.

Directions for Use

  • VIROTRENZ TABLET should be taken on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal, preferably at bedtime, or as prescribed by the doctor.
  • Follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication to ensure safety.
  • Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water.
  • Do not chew, crush or break it.

How VIROTRENZ TABLET Works

VIROTRENZ TABLET contains efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil, which work together to disrupt the life cycle of the HIV-1 virus and stop it from making copies of itself inside your body. Two of the active ingredients, emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil, belong to a class of medicines called nucleoside/nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). Once inside your cells, they mimic natural building blocks that the virus tries to use to build its DNA. When the virus uses these mock building blocks, its DNA chain is cut short, stopping replication. The third active ingredient, efavirenz, belongs to a class called non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). It directly binds to and blocks the enzyme the virus uses to duplicate itself. Together, these actions help prevent the HIV-1 virus from multiplying and spreading to new immune cells.

FAQs

VIROTRENZ TABLET is used to treat HIV infection.
VIROTRENZ TABLET contains Efavirenz, Emtricitabine, and Tenofovir. Efavirenz is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor, whereas Emtricitabine and Tenofovir are nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors. They work by inhibiting the reverse transcriptase enzyme production, which the HIV-infected cells must make to make new viruses. This effect helps to inhibit viral replication.
VIROTRENZ TABLET should be taken on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal, preferably at bedtime, as this medicine may cause dizziness or drowsiness.
The common side-effects of VIROTRENZ TABLET are dizziness, headache, diarrhea, feeling sick (nausea), being sick (vomiting), rashes (red spots or blotches sometimes with blistering and swelling of the skin), and feeling weak. These side-effects usually resolve without requiring any medical attention. However, if any of these side effects persist or get worse, inform your doctor immediately.
VIROTRENZ TABLET should not be given to patients with severe liver disease, moderate to severe kidney disease, heart condition such as prolongation of the QT interval which increases the risk of severe heart rhythm problems, family history of heart problems, and low electrolyte levels.
VIROTRENZ TABLET doesn’t cure HIV infection. However, it helps to control the disease and prevent opportunistic infections.
No, you should take VIROTRENZ TABLET on an empty stomach, preferably at bedtime. Taking it with food, especially high-fat meals, can cause too much of the medicine to enter your blood, which increases the risk of severe side effects like dizziness and confusion. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you struggle with this schedule.
Vivid dreams and difficulty sleeping are common when first starting VIROTRENZ TABLET. Taking the medicine right before you go to sleep on an empty stomach usually helps reduce these effects, and they often improve after a few weeks. If they continue to bother you, talk to your doctor.
You should avoid or strictly limit alcohol while taking VIROTRENZ TABLET. Alcohol can increase your risk of liver damage and worsen central nervous system side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, and poor concentration. Talk to your doctor about your alcohol use.
Missing doses can allow the virus to start reproducing again and quickly develop resistance to VIROTRENZ TABLET, meaning the medication may stop working for you entirely. If you have missed doses, do not double your dose; talk to your doctor or pharmacist immediately for advice.
Yes, in some patients, components of VIROTRENZ TABLET can cause kidney strain or damage. Your doctor will monitor your kidney function through regular blood and urine tests while you are on this therapy. Talk to your doctor if you notice changes in your urination or swelling in your legs.
The efavirenz component may pose a risk to an unborn baby, particularly during early pregnancy. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or think you might be, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine so they can recommend the most appropriate treatment.
Some supplements, like St. John's Wort, or certain pain medications can interact negatively with VIROTRENZ TABLET or stress your kidneys further. Always talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting any new over-the-counter medications, vitamins, or herbal products.
