About Vitcofol-HB Capsule

Vitcofol-HB Capsule is used to treat anaemia (lack of blood) that occurs due to iron deficiency and chronic kidney disease. Also, Vitcofol-HB Capsule is used to treat anaemia during pregnancy and lactation.

Vitcofol-HB Capsule is a combination of elemental iron, folic acid and glycine. Elemental iron and folic acid work by increasing red blood cell (RBC) and haemoglobin (a protein) production in the body. Glycine is used to synthesise proteins in the body.

In some cases, you may experience vomiting, nausea, stomach upset, or dark-colored stool. Most of these side effects of Vitcofol-HB Capsule do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Directions for Use

  • Vitcofol-HB Capsule can be taken on an empty stomach, usually 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals, for better absorption. However, avoid taking it with coffee, tea, or dairy products, as they may reduce its absorption.
  • Follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication.
  • Swallow Vitcofol-HB Capsule as a whole with a glass of water.
  • Do not crush, chew, or open it.

What if I have taken an overdose of Vitcofol-HB Capsule

Take Vitcofol-HB Capsule only as advised by the physician. Do not exceed the recommended dose, as it might cause adverse effects. If you suspect you have taken an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.

Co-administration of Vitcofol-HB Capsule with Capecitabine may increase the risk of serious side effects such as bleeding problems, anemia, infections, and nerve damage.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is a possible interaction between Vitcofol-HB Capsule and Capecitabine, you can use these medicines together if prescribed by the doctor. However, if you experience paleness of skin, diarrhea, severe nausea and vomiting, over-tiredness, dizziness, fainting, blood in the stools, unusual bleeding or bruising, fever, chills, body aches, flu-like symptoms, skin reactions, mouth ulcers or sores, and/or numbness, burning or tingling sensation in the hands and feet, contact a doctor. Coadministration of Vitcofol-HB Capsule and Fluorouracil may increase the effects of Fluorouracil and increase the risk of serious side effects such as bleeding problems, anaemia (lack of blood), infections, and nerve damage.

Although there is a possible interaction between Vitcofol-HB Capsule and Fluorouracil, you can take these medicines together if prescribed by your doctor. However, if you experience diarrhoea, paleness of skin, severe nausea and vomiting, over-tiredness, dizziness, fainting, blood in the stools, unusual bleeding or bruising, fever, chills, body pains, flu-like symptoms, skin reactions, mouth ulcers or sores, and/or numbness, burning or tingling in your hands and feet, contact your doctor.

Trimethoprim may decrease the blood levels and effects of Vitcofol-HB Capsule.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is a possible interaction between Vitcofol-HB Capsule and Trimethoprim, you can take these medicines together if prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop using any medications without consulting your doctor.
How does the drug interact with Vitcofol-HB Capsule:
Sulfadiazine may decrease the blood levels and effects of Vitcofol-HB Capsule.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is a possible interaction between Vitcofol-HB Capsule and Sulfadiazine, you can take these medicines together if prescribed by your doctor.
How does the drug interact with Vitcofol-HB Capsule:
Coadministration of Vitcofol-HB Capsule and Cholestyramine may interfere with the absorption of Vitcofol-HB Capsule.

Although taking Cholestyramine and Vitcofol-HB Capsule together can result in an interaction, they can be taken together if prescribed by a doctor. You are not recommended to take Vitcofol-HB Capsule with coffee, tea or dairy products at the same time, as they may reduce the absorption of Vitcofol-HB Capsule . However, you may drink coffee or tea 2 hours before or after taking Vitcofol-HB Capsule .

You are not recommended to take Vitcofol-HB Capsule with phenytoin as co-administration of these two medicines may reduce the concentration of Vitcofol-HB Capsule in blood and increase the risk of seizures (fits). However, please consult a doctor before taking Vitcofol-HB Capsule with phenytoin.

Vitcofol-HB Capsule is not recommended for patients with hemochromatosis (excessive iron in the body) as it may increase the risk of adverse effects. Therefore, it is advised to inform your doctor if you have any iron overload conditions before taking Vitcofol-HB Capsule .

Iron in Vitcofol-HB Capsule may turn the stools black. It is a common side effect of Vitcofol-HB Capsule and is not harmful.
