Zedex-P Cold Syrup 60 ml belongs to a class of respiratory medications called 'expectorant' primarily used to treat cough. Coughing (dry or productive) is the body's way of clearing irritants (like allergens, mucus or smoke) from the airways. There are two types of coughs, namely: Dry cough and chesty cough. A dry cough is tickly and doesn't produce thick mucus, while a chesty cough (wet cough) produces mucous or sputum that helps clear the airways.
Zedex-P Cold Syrup 60 ml consists of four medicines, namely: Bromhexine (mucolytic), Dextromethorphan (cough suppressant), Phenylephrine (decongestant), and Menthol (Coolant). Bromhexine makes sputum less viscous and makes it easier to cough out. Dextromethorphan relieves cough by reducing cough receptor activity, thereby affecting signals in the brain that trigger the cough reflex. Phenylephrine helps shrink the blood vessels in the nostrils and the passage and reduces stuffy noses. Menthol produces a cooling sensation and relieves throat irritation.
Zedex-P Cold Syrup 60 ml should be taken as prescribed by the doctor. Some people may experience nausea, diarrhoea, bloating, indigestion, vomiting, stomach upset, sweating, dizziness, headache, and skin rash. Most of these side effects of Zedex-P Cold Syrup 60 ml do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.

Coughing: Coughing occurs as a reflex action in the throat when there is mucus or other foreign irritant. Cough can be dry or productive. A productive cough (wet cough) develops sputum (phlegm or mucus) from the lungs. Cough is commonly caused as a response to allergy or viral infection but coughing up mucus is possibly an indication of infection in the respiratory tract. If you are coughing out thick, solid white mucus, it indicates that you may have a bacterial infection in the airways. Clear or light-coloured mucus indicates allergies or minor infections in the respiratory tract, and yellow or green mucus indicates a respiratory infection.
