About Zidavi Infusion

Zidavi Infusion belongs to a class of medicines called antibiotics used in the treatment of bacterial infections of the urinary tract, respiratory tract and abdomen. A bacterial infection is a condition in which harmful bacteria grow in the body and cause infection. Bacteremia is the presence of bacteria in the blood.

Zidavi Infusion contains Ceftazidime and Avibactam. Ceftazidime works by interfering with the formation of the bacterial cell wall (a protective covering) that is necessary for their survival. Avibactam decreases bacterial resistance and enhances the activity of Ceftazidime against the bacteria. Together, Zidavi Infusion helps to treat bacterial infections.

In some cases, you may experience redness and swelling at the site of injection, and/or nausea and diarrhoea. Most of these side effects of Zidavi Infusion do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Zidavi Infusion or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please inform your doctor before taking Zidavi Infusion. Drive only if you are alert as Zidavi Infusion may cause dizziness. Zidavi Infusion should be used with caution in those with renal impairment and Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea.

Medicinal Benefits

Zidavi Infusion contains Ceftazidime and Avibactam; they act against both aerobic (grow in the presence of oxygen) and anaerobic (grow in the absence of oxygen) gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. It is used in the treatment of bacterial infections of the urinary tract, respiratory tract, and abdomen. Ceftazidime inhibits enzymes that regulate the formation of the bacterial cell wall, thereby arresting bacterial development. Avibactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Beta-lactamase is an enzyme that inactivates antibiotics and builds up a drug resistance. By inhibiting beta-lactamase, avibactam makes the bacteria more susceptible to antibiotic action. Zidavi Infusion damages the bacterial cell wall, kills bacteria and makes the bacteria more sensitive to the action of the antibiotic. Hence Zidavi Infusion finds widespread use in treating complicated bacterial infections.

FAQs

Zidavi Infusion belongs to a class of medicines called antibiotics used in the treatment of bacterial infections of the urinary tract, respiratory tract and abdomen.

Zidavi Infusion works by damaging the bacterial cell wall (protective covering) that is necessary for their survival and by increasing bacterial sensitivity.

Zidavi Infusion may cause diarrhoea as a common side effect. However, if the condition persists, worsens or if you notice blood or mucus in stools, avoid taking Zidavi Infusion and consult a doctor immediately.

Exercise caution while taking Zidavi Infusion with diuretics/water tablets. You are not advised to take Zidavi Infusion with a diuretic called furosemide as co-administration of these two medicines may increase the risk of kidney problems, especially in patients with kidney impairment and also when Zidavi Infusion is given in high doses. However, please consult your doctor before taking Zidavi Infusion with other medicines.

Zidavi Infusion is not used to treat viral infections. Zidavi Infusion is an antibiotic that is used to treat only bacterial infections.

Zidavi Infusion is given through an IV (intravenous) line, which means it is injected directly into a vein. A healthcare provider administers it in a hospital or clinic, with the dose and duration depending on the specific infection being treated. It should not be self-administered.

Zidavi Infusion is safe for children when used at the prescribed doses by a doctor. However, it is not recommended for children under 3 months of age.

Before receiving Zidavi Infusion, you must inform your doctor if you are allergic to foods or medicines. You should also inform your doctor if you have kidney problems or diabetes or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are on a controlled sodium diet, let your doctor know before starting the medication. Also, inform your doctor if you are receiving or scheduled to receive any vaccinations.

The common side effects of Zidavi Infusion include nausea, diarrhoea, and redness and swelling at the site of injection. These side effects are usually temporary, and not everyone will experience them. In most cases, they resolve on their own without the need for medical treatment. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor for further advice and management.

If a bacterial infection is not treated, the bacteria can continue to grow and spread throughout the body. This may lead to serious health complications, such as damage to vital organs or tissues. In severe cases, it can result in sepsis (a life-threatening, body-wide infection). Additionally, the infection may become harder to treat over time, as the bacteria can develop resistance to antibiotics. It is important to seek medical treatment to prevent these risks and help your body recover.
