About Zavireach Infusion

Zavireach Infusion is a prescription antibiotic injection used to treat severe bacterial infections caused by certain bacteria, including some that are resistant to many commonly used antibiotics. It is commonly prescribed for complicated infections of the urinary tract, abdomen, and lungs. This medicine helps clear the infection by stopping the growth of harmful bacteria.

Because this antibiotic is often reserved for difficult-to-treat or multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial infections, it should only be used when prescribed by a healthcare professional. Using antibiotics only when needed helps reduce antibiotic resistance and keeps them effective for future infections.

This medicine is injected directly into a vein, usually on a regular schedule determined by your doctor to maintain a constant level of the drug in your body. Because it is given as an injection, food does not affect how it works. Drinking plenty of fluids, eating a balanced diet, and getting adequate rest can support your body's recovery during treatment.

While using Zavireach Infusion, you may experience mild side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, headache, or redness at the injection site. However, contact your doctor immediately if you develop severe watery or bloody diarrhea, skin rashes, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, seizures, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.

If you have a severe infection, it is normal to feel tired or worried about your recovery. Taking your medicine exactly as prescribed and keeping in touch with your healthcare team can help ensure the best possible outcome.

Talk to your doctor before starting this medicine if you have kidney problems, a history of seizures, liver disease, or allergies to cephalosporin, penicillin, or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Tell your doctor about all medicines you take, especially water pills (diuretics) or other medicines that may affect kidney function. Inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, caring for a child receiving this medicine, or if the patient is elderly, as closer monitoring may be needed.

Uses of Zavireach Infusion

Zavireach Infusion is used in the treatment of Bacterial infections. The detailed uses of Zavireach Infusion are as follows:

  • Complicated urinary tract infections: Zavireach Infusion helps clear deep-seated bacterial infections in the bladder and kidneys, reducing pain and fever.
  • Complicated intra-abdominal infections: This medicine works with other treatments to clear serious bacterial infections inside the stomach and abdomen.
  • Hospital-acquired pneumonia: Zavireach Infusion treats severe lung infections acquired during a hospital stay, helping to restore normal breathing and lung function.

Key Benefits

Zavireach Infusion provides reliable treatment for severe bacterial infections, including many infections caused by bacteria that have become resistant to commonly used antibiotics. By delivering the antibiotic directly into the bloodstream, it quickly reaches the site of infection, helping control bacterial growth, reduce complications, and support recovery when used exactly as prescribed.

  • Treats severe bacterial infections: Helps control serious bacterial infections that may not respond to standard antibiotics.
  • Works quickly: Delivers the antibiotic directly into the bloodstream, allowing it to reach the infection site rapidly.
  • Prevents the spread of infection: Helps stop bacteria from spreading to other parts of the body, reducing the risk of complications.
  • Overcomes bacterial resistance: Avibactam blocks certain bacterial enzymes (beta-lactamases) that can break down ceftazidime, helping the antibiotic remain effective against many resistant bacteria.
  • Supports faster recovery: By effectively controlling the infection, it helps relieve symptoms and promotes recovery when used as prescribed.

Directions for Use

  • Follow your doctor's instructions regarding dosage and timing of Zavireach Infusion.
  • Zavireach Infusion will be administered by a healthcare professional.
  • Do not self-administer.

How Zavireach Infusion Works

Zavireach Infusion contains two active ingredients. Ceftazidime is a cephalosporin antibiotic that kills bacteria by blocking the formation of their protective outer cell wall. Without this wall, the bacteria become weak and eventually die. Avibactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Some bacteria produce enzymes called beta-lactamases that can destroy antibiotics before they work. Avibactam blocks many of these enzymes, protecting ceftazidime from being broken down and allowing it to remain effective against many resistant bacteria.

FAQs

Zavireach Infusion belongs to a class of medicines called antibiotics used in the treatment of bacterial infections of the urinary tract, respiratory tract and abdomen.
Zavireach Infusion works by damaging the bacterial cell wall (protective covering) that is necessary for their survival and by increasing bacterial sensitivity.
Exercise caution while taking Zavireach Infusion with diuretics/water tablets. You are not advised to take Zavireach Infusion with a diuretic called furosemide as co-administration of these two medicines may increase the risk of kidney problems, especially in patients with kidney impairment and also when Zavireach Infusion is given in high doses. However, please consult your doctor before taking Zavireach Infusion with other medicines.
Before receiving Zavireach Infusion, you must inform your doctor if you are allergic to foods or medicines. You should also inform your doctor if you have kidney problems or diabetes or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are on a controlled sodium diet, let your doctor know before starting the medication. Also, inform your doctor if you are receiving or scheduled to receive any vaccinations.
The common side effects of Zavireach Infusion include nausea, diarrhoea, and redness and swelling at the site of injection. These side effects are usually temporary, and not everyone will experience them. In most cases, they resolve on their own without the need for medical treatment. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor for further advice and management.
If a bacterial infection is not treated, the bacteria can continue to grow and spread throughout the body. This may lead to serious health complications, such as damage to vital organs or tissues. In severe cases, it can result in sepsis (a life-threatening, body-wide infection). Additionally, the infection may become harder to treat over time, as the bacteria can develop resistance to antibiotics. It is important to seek medical treatment to prevent these risks and help your body recover.
Zavireach Infusion is given as an injection directly into a vein (intravenous infusion) by a doctor or nurse, usually in a hospital or clinic setting. Talk to your doctor if you have questions about your administration schedule.
In some cases, you may be allowed to inject this medicine at home after receiving proper training from a healthcare professional. Always follow the exact instructions provided by your medical team and talk to your doctor if you face any difficulties.
Mild diarrhea can happen during antibiotic treatment, but if you experience severe, watery, or bloody diarrhea with stomach cramps, contact your healthcare provider immediately as this could be a sign of a serious gut infection. Talk to your doctor before taking any over-the-counter anti-diarrheal medicines.
There is limited information about the use of Zavireach Infusion during pregnancy. Your doctor will prescribe it only if the expected benefit outweighs any possible risk to the baby. Small amounts of ceftazidime may pass into breast milk, so breastfeeding mothers should discuss the benefits and potential risks with their doctor before treatment.
There is no known direct interaction between alcohol and Zavireach Infusion. However, alcohol may worsen side effects such as dizziness, nausea, or dehydration and may slow your recovery from a serious infection. It is generally best to avoid or limit alcohol until you have recovered. Talk to your doctor if you have questions.
If you are receiving this medicine in a hospital, your medical team will manage your doses. If you are taking it at home and miss a dose, contact your healthcare provider immediately to schedule your next dose. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions.
No, Zavireach Infusion is an antibiotic and only works against infections caused by bacteria. It will not work against viral infections like the common cold, flu, or COVID-19. Talk to your doctor to ensure you receive the correct diagnosis.
This medicine starts fighting bacteria as soon as it enters your bloodstream. However, you may not notice an improvement in your symptoms for a couple of days. Always finish the full course of treatment as prescribed. Talk to your doctor if you do not feel better after a few days.
Yes. This medicine may be prescribed for children when appropriate. However, the dose is carefully calculated based on the child's age, body weight, kidney function, and the type of infection. It should only be given under the supervision of a healthcare professional. Talk to your child's doctor if you have any questions.
