info

Zolemectin Oral Suspension is used to treat parasitic worm infections in paediatrics. It can be used to treat infections caused by roundworms, hookworms, threadworms, whipworms, pinworms, flukes, and other parasites. It contains Albendazole and Ivermectin, which work by keeping the worm from taking glucose and depleting its energy levels, leading to its immobilization. Also, it can kill the parasites by acting on the nervous system. It starves the worms by inducing paralysis, consequently leading them to death. Common side effects of Zolemectin Oral Suspension may include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, decreased white blood cell count (leucopenia), vision problems, confusion, weakness, and difficulty walking.

About Zolemectin Oral Suspension

Zolemectin Oral Suspension is a paediatric prescription medicine available as a suspension to treat certain parasitic worm infections in children. It contains albendazole and ivermectin, which work together to eliminate susceptible parasites from the body. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine for common intestinal worm infections and certain other parasitic infections when this combination is considered appropriate. The exact treatment depends on the type of parasite causing the infection. This medicine does not treat bacterial or viral infections.

This medicine is often given as a single dose, although your doctor may recommend additional doses or a different treatment schedule depending on your child's condition. It can be taken with or without food. For some parasitic infections, your doctor may advise giving it with food, particularly a meal containing some fat, to improve the absorption of ivermectin. Encourage your child to maintain good personal hygiene, including regular handwashing and keeping fingernails clean, to help prevent reinfection.

Most children tolerate this medicine well. Mild side effects such as stomach discomfort, nausea, vomiting, headache, or dizziness are usually temporary and improve without treatment. However, consult your doctor right away if your child develops a severe skin rash, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or any other unusual symptoms.

Before giving Zolemectin Oral Suspension, tell your doctor if your child has liver disease, kidney disease, a weakened immune system, or a history of severe allergic reactions to medicines. Ivermectin is generally not recommended for children weighing less than 15 kg unless your doctor decides the benefits outweigh the risks. Your doctor may also recommend a stool test before or after treatment to identify the parasite or confirm that the infection has cleared.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines your child is taking, including prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, and supplements. Medicines used to treat seizures, tuberculosis, or stomach acid problems may affect how this medicine works. This prescription combination is different from the single-dose albendazole medicines commonly used in routine deworming programmes. Always use this medicine only as prescribed by your doctor.

Uses of Zolemectin Oral Suspension

Your doctor may prescribe Zolemectin Oral Suspension to treat the following parasitic infections:

  • Intestinal worm infections: Helps treat common intestinal worm infections such as roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, and certain other susceptible intestinal parasites.
  • Certain tissue parasitic infections: May be used to treat specific parasitic infections that affect tissues outside the intestine when your doctor considers this combination appropriate.
  • Certain parasitic skin infestations: May be prescribed for selected parasitic skin conditions, such as difficult or extensive infestations, when your doctor determines that oral treatment is appropriate. Some skin infestations are usually treated with topical medicines, so the choice of treatment depends on your child's condition.

Key Benefits

Zolemectin Oral Suspension helps remove susceptible parasitic worms from your child's body, allowing normal digestion and nutrient absorption to recover. Treating worm infections early can improve your child's overall health and well-being.

  • Helps clear worm infections: Eliminates susceptible parasites that cause intestinal and certain other parasitic infections.
  • Supports healthy growth and nutrition: Removing worms helps your child absorb nutrients more effectively, supporting healthy growth, weight gain, and energy levels.
  • Relieves symptoms of worm infections: Helps reduce symptoms such as stomach pain, bloating, poor appetite, itching around the anus, and discomfort caused by worm infestations.

Directions for Use

  • Zolemectin Oral Suspension should be given after meals.
  • Follow your doctor’s instructions regarding the dosage and duration of the medication.
  • Administer the advised dose to the child using the measuring cup/measuring spoon/dropper.
  • Avoid using regular household spoons, as they may not measure the dose correctly. Shake well before use.

How Zolemectin Oral Suspension Works

Zolemectin Oral Suspension contains two medicines that work in different ways to eliminate susceptible parasites. Albendazole interferes with the internal cell structure of worms by preventing the formation of structures they need to survive. This disrupts their ability to produce energy and absorb nutrients, eventually causing the parasites to die. Ivermectin acts on specific channels in the nerve and muscle cells of susceptible parasites. This causes paralysis of the parasites, allowing your child's body to remove them naturally. These channels are not present in the same way in humans when the medicine is used at the prescribed dose.
