DFO Gel 50 gm is a topical analgesic (pain killer) primarily used to relieve acute musculoskeletal pain and pain of osteoarthritis of joints. It reduces pain, swelling, and joint stiffness, thereby improving your ability to move and flex the joint.
DFO Gel 50 gm contains Diclofenac and Methyl salicylate (as a pain killer), Linseed oil (as an anti-inflammatory), and Menthol (as a cooling agent). DFO Gel 50 gm works by first cooling the skin and then warming it up, which interferes with the pain signal transmission through nerves. Together DFO Gel 50 gm works by blocking the release of chemical messengers that causes pain and inflammation with redness and swelling.
DFO Gel 50 gm should only be used if advised by your doctor. DFO Gel 50 gm should be used for skin only, and accidentally if it gets into your eye, mouth, or nose, rinse with water. DFO Gel 50 gm should be applied to the affected area with a piece of clean cotton wool or gauze swab. DFO Gel 50 gm should not be applied more than the recommended dose to avoid unpleasant side effects. Some common side effects of DFO Gel 50 gm are burning, itching, redness, stinging, and dryness on your skin in the place where DFO Gel 50 gm is applied. Use of DFO Gel 50 gm is contraindicated in the people who have asthma, liver disease, kidney disease, stomach/intestine problems (bleeding, ulcers, Crohn's disease), cardiovascular diseases (heart attack, high blood pressure, stroke), swelling (oedema, fluid retention), blood disorders (such as anaemia), bleeding/clotting problems. DFO Gel 50 gm should not be given to children less than 2 years of age. The use of DFO Gel 50 gm should be done with caution in the elderly as they have a high risk of kidney damage and gastrointestinal bleeding.
Drug-Drug Interaction: DFO Gel 50 gm may interact with ACE inhibitors (captopril, lisinopril), angiotensin II receptor blockers (losartan, valsartan), cidofovir, corticosteroids (dexamethasone, prednisone), lithium, methotrexate, diuretics (furosemide). DFO Gel 50 gm may increase the risk of bleeding when used with other drugs that also may cause bleeding.

Its treatment includes exercises, an analgesic that reduce pain and improve function, and finally joint replacement or other surgery like total knee replacement.
