About Diclonex Gel

Diclonex Gel is used to relieve acute musculoskeletal pain and pain of osteoarthritis of joints. It reduces pain, swelling, and joint stiffness, thereby improving your ability to move and flex the joint.

Diclonex Gel contains diclofenac, methyl salicylate, linseed oil, and menthol. Diclonex Gel works by first cooling the skin and then warming it up, which interferes with the pain signal transmission through nerves.

Some common side effects of Diclonex Gel are burning, itching, redness, stinging, and dryness on your skin in the place where Diclonex Gel is applied. These side effects are usually mild and short-lived. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.

Diclonex Gel should be used for skin only, and if it accidentally gets into your eye, mouth, or nose, rinse with water. Diclonex Gel is contraindicated in children below two years of age. In addition, caution must be exercised when treating older children (2-12 years).

  • Diclonex Gel is for topical (skin surface) use only.
  • It is typically applied 3-4 times daily, or as directed by your doctor.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water before applying Diclonex Gel. Apply a small amount of Diclonex Gel to the affected area with a piece of clean cotton wool or gauze swab and gently rub it in.
  • Avoid taking a shower for at least 1 hour after application.
  • If Diclonex Gel accidentally comes in contact with your eyes, mouth, or nose, rinse with water thoroughly.
  • Do not apply it to open wounds, or use external heat or occlusive dressings on the treated joints.

Topical overdose with Diclonex Gel is unlikely because of its low systemic absorption. However, it may be harmful if swallowed. In case of accidental swallowing/overdose, symptoms include change in the amount of urine, severe stomach pain and slow/shallow breathing.

  • Before using Diclonex Gel, tell your doctor if you are allergic to Diclonex Gel other pain killers (like ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib) or if you have any other allergies.
