Ocal-500 Tablet belongs to the group of medicines called nutritional supplements used to treat and prevent nutritional deficiencies such as calcium and vitamin D deficiency. A nutritional deficiency occurs when the body does not absorb/get enough nutrients from food. Vitamins are necessary for body development and the prevention of diseases.

Ocal-500 Tablet contains Elemental Calcium, Vitamin D3, Elemental Magnesium, and Elemental Zinc. Elemental Calcium makes the bones stronger by increasing their density. It helps in treating and preventing low calcium levels. Vitamin D3 aids in the absorption of calcium. Elemental Magnesium helps in the absorption of calcium by converting vitamin D into its active form. Elemental Zinc is necessary for bone-building cells and inhibits the formation of cells that cause the breakdown of bones. Together, Ocal-500 Tablet helps in strengthening bones.

Take Ocal-500 Tablet as advised by the doctor. In some cases, you may experience certain common sside effectssuch as stomach upset, constipation, muscle weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

Tablet: Take it with or without food as advised by the doctor. Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water; do not chew or break it.Granules: Take the granules directly by mouth or dissolve them in water as necessary. Suspension: Shake the bottle well before use. Take the recommended dose by mouth using the measuring cup/dosing syringe/dropper provided by the pack.

What if I have taken an overdose of Ocal-500 Tablet

Avoid exceeding the recommended dose as it might cause an overdose. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any unusual symptoms.

Drug Warnings

Do not take Ocal-500 Tablet if you are allergic to any of its contents. Inform your doctor if you have hypercalcemia (high level of calcium in the blood), hypercalciuria (excess calcium in the urine), nephrocalcinosis (excess calcium deposition in the kidneys), nephrolithiasis (kidney stones), hypervitaminosis D (excess vitamin D), severe renal impairment or renal failure. Consult your doctor before taking Ocal-500 Tablet if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Ocal-500 Tablet should be given to children only if advised by the doctor. Avoid consuming foods containing oxalic acid and phytic acid such as spinach, rhubarb, and whole-grain cereals as they might inhibit the absorption of calcium. Maintain a gap of two hours between Ocal-500 Tablet and foods containing oxalic acid or phytic acid.

Ocal-500 Tablet can be taken with levothyroxine if advised by the doctor. Calcium might lower the effectiveness of levothyroxine, therefore, maintain a gap of 4 hours between Ocal-500 Tablet and levothyroxine.

The common side effects of Ocal-500 Tablet include stomach upset, constipation, muscle weakness, nausea, and vomiting. If you experience these side effects persistently, please consult your doctor.
