Protar Ointment is used to treat skin conditions like psoriasis. It may also be used for neurodermatitis, hyperkeratotic skin conditions, cracked heels and keratoderma. Psoriasis is a skin disorder in which skin cells multiply up to 10 times faster than usual, leading to skin build-up into bumpy (uneven) red patches covered with white scales.

Protar Ointment is composed of two medicines: Salicylic acid (peeling agent) and Coal Tar (keratoplastic). Salicylic acid helps shed dead skin cells by reducing redness and swelling (inflammation). Coal tar causes the skin to shed dead cells from its top layer and slows down the growth of skin cells.

Protar Ointment is for topical use only (for skin application). Protar Ointment may cause common side effects such as a burning sensation, skin irritation, itching, and redness at the application site. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and typically resolve on their own over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, please consult your doctor.

Let your doctor know if you are allergic to any of the components in Protar Ointment or other medications. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult the doctor before starting Protar Ointment. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, or mucous membranes; rinse with water if contact occurs. Avoid applying Protar Ointment to broken or infected skin.

• Follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication.
• Apply a generous amount of ointment and spread it evenly on the affected areas. You can also apply it with a piece of clean cotton wool or a gauze swab.
• Wash your hands before and after using it on the affected areas unless the treatment is for the hands.
