Description

Strophanthus hispidus is a powerful homoeopathic medicine prepared from the tincture of its seeds. Known for its potent action on the heart, nervous system, and muscular structures, it is especially suited to conditions involving cardiac weakness, irregular pulse, nervous irritability, and digestive disturbances. It has a distinct affinity for the circulatory system, making it valuable in cases of dropsy, degenerative heart conditions, and breathlessness from slight exertion. This medicine also supports the gastrointestinal and urinary systems, particularly where symptoms arise following emotional strain or exhaustion.

Common Name, English: Inee, Onaye, Onage, SBL's Strophanthus hispidus can be helpful in the following conditions:

  • Heart and Circulatory Disorders. Strengthens and regulates the heart's action, especially in cardiac degeneration and nervous palpitation. Slows pulse with increased systolic strength; useful in breathlessness from minor activity. Alleviates pressing, twitching, and stitching sensations at the apex of the heart. Supports cases with loud heart sounds, small irregular pulse, and signs of mitral valve incompetence. Useful in dropsy due to cardiac causes, faintness, and edema of lower limbs.
  • Nervous System and Mental Symptoms. Strophanthus hispidus is indicated in excessive nervous irritability, precocious loquacity (especially in children). Mental excitability followed by faintness and prostration. Levitation-like sensations during naps; twitching throughout body. Restlessness and disturbed sleep due to heart palpitations or pressure sensations.
  • Headache and Vertigo. Used in cases with vertigo, undulating or bubbling sensation in the head and body. Pain in occiput, temples, or scalp junction, sometimes with double vision.
  • Pulsations in head accompany cardiac sensations.
  • Eyes and Vision. Impaired sight in left eye, with associated nausea and faintness. Pupils show rhythmic dilation and contraction; eyes appear unusually brilliant.
  • Facial and Throat Symptoms. Flushed face with scarlet lips, often accompanying fever or gastric distress. Burning in esophagus and throat, compelling frequent empty swallowing. Dryness of tongue and fauces, sometimes with choking after meals.
  • Gastrointestinal Complaints. Nausea, hiccough, and vomiting after eating; loss of appetite and repugnance to alcohol. Burning gastric distress with eructation and twitching in the stomach. Pressure and stitches in hepatic and renal regions; shooting pain in right hypochondrium. Colic and pinching around the navel; frequent rumbling in abdomen.
  • Stool and Bowel Function. Diarrhea with violent colic, burning, and tenesmus. Increased frequency of loose stools despite good appetite.
  • Urinary System. Marked reduction in urine output post-dose; kidneys become hyperemic. Pain and sensitivity in renal areas; urine may appear darker and reduced in quantity.
  • Respiratory and Chest Conditions. Cough aggravated by lying down; may be accompanied by bright red expectoration. Pressure and tenderness in chest, particularly over the ribs and sternum. Shortness of breath with heart strain or emotional exertion.
  • Muscles, Limbs, and Extremities Pains. Heaviness and drawing twitch pains in forearms, fingers, hips, shoulders, and feet. Supports when suffering from itching, stitching sensations in both feet; tension and pain in dorsum of foot. Increased contractile power of skeletal muscles; rigidity with toxic doses.
  • General Weakness & Faintness. Coldness of extremities with faintness or weakness after emotional or physical strain. Feeling of being lifted from bed during naps; undulating body sensations. Aids in muscular strength and prolongs contractions in weak patients.
  • Fever and Temperature Regulation. Temperature may rise with dry skin and flushed face. Strophanthus hispidus is beneficial in cold extremities with profuse sweat following febrile episodes. Helps in restlessness and twitching may accompany fever.
