Ergotamine

Ergotamine is a prescription sublingual medication used to treat acute migraine attacks, with or without aura, and cluster headaches. It works by relieving a headache that has already started and should not be used to prevent future migraine attacks or treat other types of headaches unless advised by your doctor.

Take Ergotamine at the very first sign of a migraine or cluster headache for the best results. Place the tablet under your tongue and allow it to dissolve completely without chewing or swallowing it. Since it is a sublingual tablet, it does not require water and may be taken with or without food. Avoid smoking, alcohol, and known migraine triggers, as these may reduce the effectiveness of treatment or increase the risk of side effects.

Most people tolerate this medicine well, but some may experience mild side effects such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, numbness or tingling in the fingers or toes, or temporary muscle weakness. These effects are usually mild and short-lived. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop chest pain, severe pain or coldness in your hands or feet, difficulty breathing, severe stomach pain, or signs of an allergic reaction.

Before taking Ergotamine, tell your doctor if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, circulation problems, liver or kidney disease, or if you smoke regularly. Do not use this medicine if you have coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, uncontrolled hypertension, severe liver or kidney impairment, or if you are pregnant. Certain medicines, including some antibiotics, antifungal medicines, HIV protease inhibitors, triptans, and other ergot medicines, can interact seriously with Ergotamine. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, an older adult, or have any chronic medical condition, consult your doctor before using this medicine.

Serious Side Effects (Call a doctor right away):

• Severe abdominal pain or bloody diarrhoea
• Severe allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat)
• Severe headache that worsens or new neurological symptoms such as confusion or weakness
