Mandelic Acid
About Mandelic Acid
Mandelic Acid is a topical skincare treatment used to address acne, uneven skin texture, and dark spots on the skin. It works by gently exfoliating the surface of your skin, helping to clear away dead skin cells and unclog pores. This makes it an effective option for managing mild acne and improving overall skin clarity.
For the best results, you should use Mandelic Acid consistently as part of your evening skincare routine, typically once daily or as advised by your healthcare provider. Apply this topical formula to clean, dry skin before applying heavier creams or moisturisers. Incorporating daily sun protection and staying well-hydrated can significantly enhance your skin's healing process and overall results.
While using Mandelic Acid, you might experience mild skin peeling, dryness, or a slight stinging sensation. These reactions are usually temporary as your skin adjusts to the treatment. However, if you experience severe redness, burning, or signs of an allergic reaction, stop using it immediately and consult your doctor.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting Mandelic Acid if you have extremely sensitive skin, eczema, or active sunburns. You should not use this product if you have a known allergy to any of its ingredients.
Avoid using other strong exfoliating acids or physical scrubs at the same time, as this can cause severe skin irritation. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Mandelic Acid to ensure it is safe for your situation.
Uses of Mandelic Acid
Medicinal Benefits
Mandelic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that gently exfoliates the skin, helping improve skin texture, reduce acne, and promote a more even complexion. Its larger molecular size allows it to work more gradually, making it suitable for many people with sensitive or acne-prone skin.
- Gently Exfoliates the Skin: Helps remove dead skin cells, revealing smoother, softer, and healthier-looking skin.
- Helps Manage Acne: Unclogs pores, reduces excess oil, and helps decrease the formation of acne and blemishes.
- Improves Skin Tone: Helps fade post-acne marks, dark spots, and uneven pigmentation with regular use.
- Refines Skin Texture: Promotes smoother skin by reducing roughness and improving overall skin appearance.
- Suitable for Sensitive Skin: Its gentle exfoliating action may cause less irritation than some other alpha hydroxy acids when used as directed.
Directions for Use
- Gel/ Lotion/Cream: Apply a thin layer with clean and dry hands on the skin's affected areas. You can also apply it with a piece of clean cotton wool or gauze swab. Gently rub it into the skin until disappeared.
- Topical acid/Essence/Serum/Skin prep water: Take few drops and gently pat on the affected areas until they are absorbed into the skin.
- Peel: Cleanse your skin and pat dry. Take a small amount of the product and apply to the affected areas with an applicator. Leave on until it dries and wipe it off. Avoid applying the peel to sensitive areas of your skin, such as around your eyes, your nostrils, and the corners of your lips.
- Face wash: Work the face wash into a nice lather and apply it to the affected areas with your hands. Gently massage in circular motions and rinse off with clean water.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise
- Wear sunscreen daily: Using exfoliating topical treatments increases your skin's sensitivity to UV rays. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher every morning to prevent sun damage and dark spots from returning.
- Keep your skin hydrated: Support your skin's natural barrier by drinking plenty of water throughout the day and using a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturiser alongside Mandelic Acid.
- Avoid picking your skin: Do not squeeze or pick at acne blemishes, as this can worsen inflammation, lead to scarring, and cause deep dark spots that take much longer to fade.
- Maintain a skin-friendly diet: Focus on eating a balanced diet rich in antioxidant-filled fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats, which support overall skin health and repair.

Disease/Condition Glossary
Acne vulgaris (acne) is a skin condition caused when the hair follicles are plugged with oil and dead skin cells. Whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, cysts, and nodules are all types of acne. It commonly occurs in teenagers though all age groups are affected.
Hyperpigmentation: It is a skin condition caused due to excess production of melanin, a skin pigment. This causes darkened skin that appears as spots or patches. It can be treated by lightening creams, retinoids, peels etc.

Mandelic Acid is for topical (for skin) use only. Do not put bandage or dressing on the affected area while treating with Mandelic Acid unless the doctor advised. If the medicine gets into your eyes, nose, mouth or vagina, rinse with cold water. Do not apply Mandelic Acid on open wounds, lesions, and blisters.
Please do not stop using Mandelic Acid on your own even if the symptoms are relieved. Your symptoms may improve before the skin condition is completely cured. Continue the usage of Mandelic Acid until your course advised by the doctor is finished.

Many people can gradually build up to daily use, but it is best to start using it two to three times a week to see how your skin tolerates it. If you experience persistent irritation or dryness, you may need to reduce how often you apply it. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist for personalised advice.
Mild peeling or flaking is a common side effect as your skin sheds dead cells, especially when you first start using the product. If the peeling becomes severe, painful, or deeply red, you should pause use and talk to your doctor.
Yes, this product is known for being gentler than many other exfoliating treatments due to its larger molecular size, making it a good option for sensitive skin. However, you should still perform a patch test first. Talk to your doctor if you have concerns about skin sensitivity.
Using both at the same time can sometimes cause skin irritation because both are acidic. It is usually best to use vitamin C in the morning and Mandelic Acid in the evening to protect your skin barrier. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist to design a safe skincare routine.
Some people experience a temporary increase in breakouts (purging) when they first start using exfoliating products as deep impurities are brought to the surface. This typically resolves within a few weeks, but if it persists or worsens, stop use and talk to your doctor.
While topical exfoliating acids generally have low systemic absorption, safety guidelines can vary. It is always safest to consult a professional before introducing new active skincare ingredients during this time. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist to confirm if it is safe for you.
