Proper hygiene, handling, and storage are critical when preparing infant formula for low birth weight babies. Follow these steps carefully:

1. Sterilise Everything: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Boil the feeding bottle, nipple, and cap in water for 5 minutes to sterilise them.
2. Boil Water: Boil fresh drinking water for 5 minutes and allow it to cool down to a lukewarm temperature (approx. 37°C/98°F).
3. Measure Water: Pour the exact amount of lukewarm, previously boiled water into the sterilised feeding bottle as per your paediatrician's feeding schedule.
4. Add Powder: Use ONLY the scoop provided inside the tin. Fill the scoop, then level it off with the flat edge of a clean knife. Add 1 level scoop of powder for every 30 ml (1 fl oz) of water.
5. Mix Thoroughly: Cap the bottle and shake well until the powder is completely dissolved.
6. Test Temperature: Test the temperature of the formula by placing a few drops on the inside of your wrist. It should feel comfortably warm, not hot.

Pro Tip: Discard any unconsumed formula remaining in the bottle within 1 hour of starting the feed to prevent bacterial growth.
