Contra Kit Tablet is used for the medical termination of the pregnancy before 63 days after the first day of the last menses period. It also works in the second trimester of pregnancy. It contains Mifepristone and Misoprostol, which blocks the effects of the progesterone hormone required in women to continue the pregnancy. Also, it increases the womb's (uterus) contraction and dilates the cervix, thereby expelling the pregnancy. In some cases, you may experience side effects such as nausea, uterine cramps, vomiting, diarrhoea, infection following abortion, dizziness, and uterine bleeding. Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions.

Contra Kit contains Mifepristone and Misoprostol, which are medicines used for medical abortion. It works by stopping a pregnancy that has already started, rather than preventing one from occurring. If she took it after a possible conception, it may terminate the early pregnancy, but it does not act as emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy beforehand. She should follow the doctor?s instructions carefully and have a follow-up to confirm the outcome.

My wife had a medical abortion, taking one tablet on 24 January and the remaining tablets on 26 January. She developed a high fever of around 104?104.5?F and had a blood culture done on 30 January. She is now admitted and being treated for typhoid. Can a medical abortion affect blood culture results?

A medical abortion itself does not affect blood culture results. Blood cultures detect bacteria in the bloodstream, so a positive result usually indicates an infection, such as typhoid in your wife?s case. The high fever after the abortion is likely due to an unrelated infection rather than the abortion itself. It is important that she continues hospital treatment and follow-up as advised by her doctor.

Drug-Drug Interactions: Contra Kit Tablet interacts with corticosteroids (dexamethasone), antifungal (ketoconazole, itraconazole), antibiotics (erythromycin, rifampicin), anti-epileptic (phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine, tacrolimus, sirolimus), medicines to treat migraine (ergotamine). So, Contra Kit Tablet should not be taken along with these drugs.

Drug-Food Interactions: Please tell your doctor about all the Vitamins, herbs, and supplements you are taking as Contra Kit Tablet may interact with them to produce unpleasant side effects. Also, Contra Kit Tablet is known to interact with St John’s Wort (a natural remedy used to treat mild depression), and grapefruit juice.
