Dexona Tablet is used to treat inflammatory conditions such as allergic disorders and skin conditions. It is also used to treat ulcerative colitis, arthritis, lupus, psoriasis and breathing disorders. Furthermore, it is approved for the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in adult and adolescent patients (aged 12 years and older with a body weight of at least 40 kg) who require supplemental oxygen therapy. It contains Dexamethasone, which works by blocking the release of substances that cause inflammation. Some people may experience side effects like weight gain, indigestion, headache, dizziness, rash, fluid retention (swelling in your hands or ankles), sleep problems, mild mood changes and nausea. Inform the doctor if you have an infection that affects the whole body or if you need to have a vaccination, particularly live virus vaccines.

Is it safe to use Dexona and Avil for a long period? I have been taking them for the past 5 years. Could this affect my kidneys or overall health?

Using Dexona (dexamethasone) and Avil (pheniramine) for a long period like 5 years is not considered safe without close medical supervision, especially because Dexona is a steroid that can cause serious side effects over time such as weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure, weak bones (osteoporosis), increased infection risk, and hormonal imbalance; Avil, being an antihistamine, may cause drowsiness, dry mouth, and reduced alertness with long-term use. While these medicines do not directly damage the kidneys in most cases, long-term steroid use can indirectly affect overall health and may worsen existing conditions. It is very important not to stop Dexona suddenly, as this can cause withdrawal problems; instead, you should consult a doctor to gradually reduce and stop it safely and to find a better long-term treatment for your underlying condition.

I have been taking Dexona for 3 days. Ovulation (follicle rupture) occurred on day 13, and today is day 15. Should I continue taking Dexona?

Dexona (dexamethasone) is sometimes used in fertility treatment to help improve hormone balance and support ovulation, and in some cases, it may be continued for a few days even after ovulation, but this depends entirely on your doctor's specific plan and the reason it was prescribed. Since your ovulation has already occurred (day 13) and you are now on day 15, you may be in the phase where some doctors continue treatment, but this is not the same for everyone. It is important not to stop or continue the medicine on your own, as even short-term steroid use should follow the prescribed schedule. The safest approach is to continue only as per your prescription and confirm with your doctor as soon as possible (by phone or message) to know whether to stop or continue further, ensuring both safety and the best outcome for your treatment.

Indeed, prolonged VM (stress or steroid-related) hyperglycemia can be dangerous since it raises the risk of infections and consequences from diabetes, so it must be monitored and controlled. Weight gain, elevated blood sugar, acidity, and mood swings are among the adverse effects of dexona (dexamethasone), particularly when used repeatedly or over an extended period of time.
