Imodium Capsule is used to treat diarrhoea. It is also indicated in the treatment of diarrhoea associated with inflammatory bowel disease and in reducing the volume of discharge resulting from an ileostomy (surgical opening in the abdominal wall). It contains Loperamide, which works by slowing down an overactive bowel. This allows water and salts that are usually lost in diarrhoea to be absorbed by the body. Thereby, it helps treat diarrhoea. It may cause common side effects such as headache, nausea, and constipation. Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions.

You should focus mainly on staying well hydrated with ORS or safe fluids, as this is the most important part of managing traveller's diarrhoea. You can take Imodium again if the diarrhoea is uncomfortable, but only as directed, and avoid it if you have fever, blood in the stool, or severe abdominal pain, because in those cases it can be harmful. Probiotics are safe and can help restore gut bacteria, but they won't stop diarrhoea immediately. Stick to light, bland foods and rest, and monitor for warning signs such as persistent diarrhoea for 3 days or more, high fever, blood in stool, or dehydration, in which case you should see a doctor promptly.

You should continue ORS to prevent dehydration. For mild diarrhoea with stomach upset and headache, do not take Imodium or antibiotics like Norflox TZ without a doctor's prescription, as most acute diarrhoea is self-limiting and resolves on its own.
