Sitcom Forte Tablet is a combination medicine used in the treatment of piles (haemorrhoids). This medicine helps strengthen the walls of tiny blood vessels and prevent leakage and fragility, enhances blood flow by decreasing blood viscosity/thickness, reduces inflammation (redness and swelling) and promotes better healing. It is also used to treat chronic venous insufficiency of lower limbs. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, and indigestion.

My wife has bleeding during defecation along with mild abdominal pain. A rectal examination revealed grade 1 haemorrhoids. The surgeon prescribed Sitcom Forte Tablet for the haemorrhoids and Ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice daily and Metronidazole 400 mg three times daily for five days for suspected colitis. I would like to know whether it is safe to take these two antibiotics during lactation.

Ciprofloxacin is generally not recommended during breastfeeding, as it may affect the baby?s developing joints. Metronidazole can be used with caution, preferably after breastfeeding, and under medical supervision. Consult your doctor to discuss safer antibiotic options or the best timing to reduce any risk to your baby.
