If someone has had unprotected sex with multiple partners, the only way to know if they have HIV is by getting tested. A doctor may recommend tests such as the HIV Antibody Test or the HIV Antigen/Antibody Test, which can detect infection after the window period. Testing is usually advised a few weeks after exposure and sometimes repeated after 3 months for confirmation. These tests are simple, confidential, and available at hospitals or diagnostic labs. Early testing helps in getting timely treatment and protecting both personal health and partners.

About 4 years ago, I had unprotected sex with an unknown woman. After 3 months, I got an HIV test and the result was negative. After 6 months, I got married, and my wife and I both tested HIV negative during her pregnancy, and we now have a healthy child. Is there still any chance that I could have HIV infection?

If you had unprotected sex 4 years ago and your HIV Test was negative after 3 months, and later both you and your wife again tested negative during pregnancy, the chances that you have HIV are extremely unlikely. HIV tests done after the window period (about 3 months) are considered reliable. Since multiple tests over the years have been negative and your child is healthy, there is no indication that you have HIV infection from that exposure. If you still feel worried, you can take another HIV test for reassurance, but based on the information you provided, the risk is very low.
