I am experiencing a throat infection along with a runny nose, headache, and fever. What should I do?
Dr Chandrakanth Jena
Pharm D
You may be experiencing a viral infection such as a common cold or flu. Make sure to rest, drink plenty of fluids, and take paracetamol to help with fever and headaches. Gargling with warm salt water, using an antiseptic mouthwash, or taking lozenges can soothe your throat. A saline nasal spray or steam inhalation may help clear your nose. If your symptoms worsen, last more than a few days, or you have difficulty breathing, please consult a doctor promptly.
I have had throat pain for the last couple of days. What could be the cause?
Dr G Reddy
M Pharmacy (Pharmaceutics)
Throat pain for a few days is usually caused by simple issues like a viral infection, cold, tonsillitis, acid reflux, or even dryness from talking a lot or sleeping with your mouth open. If you also have a cold, fever, or difficulty swallowing, it is more likely an infection. Most cases improve with warm salt-water gargles, warm fluids, and lozenges. If the pain gets worse or lasts more than 5 to 7 days, it is best to see a doctor.
