Derobin Ointment is used to treat skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema. It helps to reduce swelling, itching, and redness and remove dead skin cells. It works by slowing down the production of skin cells. Also, it breaks down a protein known as keratin (that forms part of skin structure) which removes dead skin cell, peel dead cells of the skin, and softens skin. Some people may experience skin irritation or staining of the skin. Before using this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions. Avoid contact of this medicine with normal skin, nose, mouth, eyes, skin folds, or genitals. In case, it comes in contact with these areas accidentally, rinse with water thoroughly.
I developed an infection on my upper inner thighs due to wearing underwear. After applying Derobin ointment, the area became very irritated with a burning sensation. What should I do now?
G.santoshini Reddy
M Pharmacy (Pharmaceutics)
The burning and irritation after applying Derobin ointment are likely due to a reaction to the medication, as it contains strong ingredients that are not suitable for sensitive areas like the inner thighs, so you should stop using it immediately. Gently clean the area with water, keep it dry, and apply a soothing moisturiser or calamine lotion to reduce irritation; avoid tight clothing and wear loose cotton underwear to prevent further friction. Do not apply any steroid or medicated creams without medical advice, as they can worsen the problem. If redness, pain, or burning persists, or if there are signs of infection like discharge or spreading rash, it is important to consult a doctor for proper treatment and a safer alternative.
Can Derobin ointment be used for small, round white patches on the skin? Is it safe and effective?
G.santoshini Reddy
M Pharmacy (Pharmaceutics)
Derobin ointment is not safe or appropriate for treating small, round, white patches on the skin, as it contains ingredients meant for specific conditions such as psoriasis, and using it without proper diagnosis can irritate the skin, cause side effects, or worsen the condition. White patches can have different causes, such as fungal infection, vitiligo, or post-inflammatory changes, and each requires a different treatment. It is best to avoid self-medication and consult a doctor for a correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment, which may include antifungal creams or other targeted therapies depending on the cause.
I have been suffering from ringworm (fungal infection) for 3-4 weeks. I applied Derobin cream on the affected area. What should I do next?
G.santoshini Reddy
M Pharmacy (Pharmaceutics)
Derobin cream is not suitable for ringworm, as it contains strong steroid-based ingredients that can worsen fungal infections and make them spread, so you should stop using it immediately. The correct treatment is to use a proper antifungal cream such as clotrimazole, ketoconazole, or terbinafine applied twice daily for at least 2-4 weeks and continued for 1-2 weeks after the rash clears. Keep the area clean and dry, avoid scratching, wear loose cotton clothing, and do not share towels or clothes to prevent the spread. If the infection is not improving or is spreading, you may need oral antifungal medication prescribed by a doctor.
I have psoriasis. What should I do now?

You should consult your doctor to get a prescription for topical steroids or vitamin D analogues, which can help reduce inflammation and slow skin cell buildup. Apply fragrance-free emollients or moisturisers daily to keep your skin hydrated. It is also essential to identify and avoid known triggers such as stress, smoking, alcohol, or harsh soaps, as these may worsen psoriasis and cause flare-ups. Regular skin care and adherence to your treatment plan can help manage symptoms effectively.
