I'm now using Rite, Halox, and Tacroz cream to treat my vitiligo symptoms, but the white spots are still there and aren't spreading throughout my body. Could you please advise which cream I should use to get rid of them?

Treatment for vitiligo frequently takes several months, and stable, non-spreading white patches are usually encouraging. Although steroid-type creams and Tacroz Cream are frequently used, no cream can ensure that vitiligo patches are completely removed. For greater outcomes, doctors may occasionally combine lotions with phototherapy or limited sun exposure. It's crucial to avoid overusing steroid creams, which can thin the skin, and switching medications on your own since you're already using a number of creams without any benefit. Since therapy typically requires patience and gradual modification, please continue to see a dermatologist on a frequent basis.

My vitiligo is currently in the active stage. How can it be controlled or treated effectively?

When Vitiligo is in the active stage, the main goal is to stop new patches from appearing and then help the skin regain colour. Doctors usually start with medicated creams such as topical steroids or non-steroid creams (like calcineurin inhibitors) to calm the skin's immune response and slow the spread. In some cases, a short course of oral medicines may be given to control rapid progression. Light therapy (phototherapy) is also very effective when done regularly under supervision, as it helps stimulate pigment cells to return. Along with treatment, it is important to protect your skin from sunburn by using sunscreen, avoiding skin injury or friction (as new patches can form at those sites), and managing stress, which can sometimes worsen the condition. Since active vitiligo can change over time, regular follow-up with a dermatologist is important so treatment can be adjusted based on how your skin responds. Early and consistent treatment gives better chances of controlling the condition and improving skin colour.

Drug-Drug Interaction: Inform your doctor if you are receiving concomitant therapy with photosensitizing agents (anthralin/dithranol, coal tar or its derivatives, phenothiazines, thiazides, griseofulvin, nalidixic acid, sulphonamides, salicylanilides, tetracyclines) and certain organic staining dyes (toluidine blue, methylene blue, methyl orange and rose Bengal).

Drug-Food Interaction: Avoid eating figs, parsley, mustard, parsnips, carrots, limes, and celery while being treated with Melanocyl Solution, as these may increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight.

Drug-Disease Interaction: Melanocyl Solution is contraindicated in patients with aphakia (missing lens inside the eye). If you have a specific history of light-sensitive disease states such as erythropoietic protoporphyria (rare inherited metabolic disorder), lupus erythematosus (autoimmune disease), xeroderma pigmentosum (extreme sensitivity to UV rays), variegate porphyria (inherited porphyria), albinism (group of genetic disorders that causes hair, skin or eyes to have little or no colour) and porphyria cutanea tarda (a type of blood disorder that affects the skin), please inform your doctor.
