  • Diabetes medicines (e.g. insulin, sulfonylureas): Alpha lipoic acid may enhance the blood sugar-lowering effects of these medicines, increasing the risk of low blood sugar. Your doctor may monitor your blood glucose and adjust treatment if needed.
  • Chemotherapy medicines (e.g. cisplatin): If you are receiving chemotherapy, consult your oncologist before taking this supplement, as it may not be suitable alongside some cancer treatments.
  • Thyroid medicines (e.g. levothyroxine): Alpha lipoic acid may theoretically reduce the absorption or effectiveness of levothyroxine if taken at the same time. Your doctor may advise taking this supplement and your thyroid medicine several hours apart if needed.
