Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection is a combination of two drugs: Ceftriaxone (antibiotic) and Tazobactum (beta-lactamase inhibitor) used to treat several bacterial infections. Ceftriaxone is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that acts against both aerobic (grow in the presence of oxygen) and anaerobic (grow in the absence of oxygen) gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. It interferes with the formation of the bacterial cell wall (a protective covering) necessary for their survival. Thereby damages the bacterial cell wall and kills bacteria. Tazobactum is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that enhances the activity of ceftriaxone and decreases resistance.
Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection is used to treat bacterial infections of the urinary tract, blood, bones and joints, heart, brain, chest, ears, skin, or soft tissues.
Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection contains Ceftriaxone and Tazobactum. Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection may interfere with urine test (for sugar) and Coomb’s test (blood test) giving false-positive results. Therefore, if you are about to undergo any laboratory tests, inform your doctor or lab technician that you are taking Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection.
You are not recommended to take Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection with streptomycin as co-administration of these two medicines may increase the risk of kidney damage. However, please consult your doctor before taking Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection with other medicines to adjust the dose appropriately.
Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection may cause diarrhoea as a common side effect. However, if the condition persists, worsens or notices blood or mucus in stools, avoid taking Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection and consult a doctor immediately.
Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection is not used to treat viral infections. Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection is an antibiotic which is used to treat only bacterial infections.
Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems as it may increase the risk of adverse effects. Therefore, inform your doctor if you have any kidney problems before taking Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection so that the dose may be adjusted accordingly.
Generally, Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection starts working soon after taking it, as it is injected directly into the blood stream. However to kill all the harmful bacteria and make you feel better, it may take some days. So, complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor.
Inform your doctor if you don't get better after finishing the full course of treatment as prescribed by your doctor. Also, inform if your symptoms are getting worse while using Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection.
The common side effects of Ritecef T 1000mg/125mg Injection are diarrhoea, rash, raised white blood cells, raised platelets, nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, blood clots, dizziness, headache, a lump where the medicine was injected and sweating. If any of these side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
