DEXOREN DROPS 5ML belongs to the class of combination medications called ‘antibiotics', and 'steroids' used for the treatment of the bacterial eye or ear infections. It is used to treat eye infections such as conjunctivitis (inflammation of the conjunctiva) and ear infections such as otitis media (middle ear infections) in children with ear tubes and otitis externa (outer ear infections) in adults and children.
DEXOREN DROPS 5ML is a combination of two medicines: Chloramphenicol and Dexamethasone. Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic that acts by interfering with the formation of essential proteins required for bacterial growth. Dexamethasone is a steroid that reduces inflammation and symptoms associated with infection such as redness and irritation. It works by inhibiting the chemicals such as prostaglandins that cause inflammation.
DEXOREN DROPS 5ML is available for topical use in the form of eye/ear drops. You should take this medicine as prescribed by your doctor. The common side-effects of DEXOREN DROPS 5ML are application site burning/stinging sensation or redness. Eye drops may also cause temporary blurred vision. When using eye drops, if you are experiencing any swelling or sensitivity to light, wash your eyes thoroughly with water after 15 minutes. If the condition does not improve, consult your doctor immediately.
Do not take DEXOREN DROPS 5ML if you are allergic to any contents of it. Before taking DEXOREN DROPS 5ML, inform your doctor if you have fungal infections, viral infections such as herpes simplex or varicella, or parasitic infections such as amoebiasis. Do not use DEXOREN DROPS 5ML if you have tuberculosis, damaged cornea, ulceration, lesions with missing skin that cover the eye or ear, and increased pressure inside the eye.

Before taking DEXOREN DROPS 5ML, inform your doctor if you have vision problems, severe pain in the eye, sensitivity to light, inflammation of the eye and have a rash on the scalp or face, black or coloured part of the eye looks unusual, foreign body in the eye, recurrent eye infection, glaucoma (raised pressure in the eye), dry eyes, eye injury or eye surgery, or using any other eye drops or eye ointment. Do not use eye/ear drops for longer durations than your doctor recommended as long-term use may cause a cataract of the eye (clouding of the lens) and suppression of the adrenal gland function.
Alcohol may affect your ability to fight infections. So, it is recommended to avoid alcohol until your condition improves.
DEXOREN DROPS 5ML is a category C drug. It should not be used in pregnant women unless prescribed by your doctor.
DEXOREN DROPS 5ML should be used with caution in breastfeeding mothers.
DEXOREN DROPS 5ML may affect your vision. So, do not drive or operate heavy machinery until your vision clears while using DEXOREN DROPS 5ML.
DEXOREN DROPS 5ML can be used for treating eye/ear infections in patients with liver diseases.
DEXOREN DROPS 5ML should be used with caution in patients with kidney diseases.

DEXOREN DROPS 5ML may not cause hearing loss. However, if you develop any symptoms such as vertigo (dizziness) or tinnitus (ringing in the ears) while using this medicine, consult your doctor immediately.
