About Kenacort 0.1% Oral Paste 5 gm

Kenacort 0.1% Oral Paste 5 gm belongs to a group of medications called ‘corticosteroids’ used in the treatment of various inflammatory and allergic disorders. It is used in the treatment of allergic rhinitis, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic carditis, hormone problems, ulcerative colitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, psoriasis, and other inflammatory conditions. It is also used in the treatment of mouth sores (painful lesions occurring in the lower lip or gums).

Kenacort 0.1% Oral Paste 5 gm contains ‘triamcinolone’ which belongs to the class of ‘corticosteroids’. It controls inflammation by acting on the immune system. It decreases the activity of the immune system by blocking white blood cells (WBC) from attacking the body cells. It reduces the release of chemicals that cause inflammation. It causes constriction of blood vessels decreasing the access of cells to the site of injury. This effect helps in reducing swelling, pain and discomfort.

Kenacort 0.1% Oral Paste 5 gm should be taken as advised by your doctor. The dose of the medicine will be decided by your doctor based on your health condition. Kenacort 0.1% Oral Paste 5 gm may cause certain common side effects such as upset stomach, stomach irritation, vomiting, headache, dizziness, insomnia, restlessness, skin rash, vision problems, and weight gain. Directions for Use

Apply a thin layer of toothpaste on the affected area after meals at night. Do not rub or spread the paste. You can use this paste once or twice daily.

Drug Interactions

Drug-drug interactions: Kenacort 0.1% Oral Paste 5 gm may interact with other corticosteroids or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), antifungals (itraconazole and ketoconazole), antibiotic (clarithromycin, telithromycin, and rifampicin), an antidepressant (nefazodone), blood thinners, birth control pills,  diuretics, bronchodialators (theophylline),  antiarrhythmic drugs (digoxin), anticonvulsants (phenytoin) and drug used to treat rheumatoid arthritis (cyclosporine).

Drug-food interactions: Avoid consumption of alcohol.

Drug-disease interactions: Kenacort 0.1% Oral Paste 5 gm should be used with caution in patients with liver and kidney diseases, thyroid disorder, diabetes, malaria, tuberculosis, osteoporosis (bone thinning), glaucoma or cataracts, stomach ulcers, diverticulitis (inflammation of pouches formed in the gut), depression or mental illness, congestive heart failure and high blood pressure.
