Laftid 5 Tablet belongs to a class of medicines called ‘H2-receptor antagonists’. It is used in the treatment of peptic ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease (acid reflux). Peptic ulcers are sores that develop in the lining of the stomach, lower esophagus or small intestine. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the tube connecting your mouth and stomach (esophagus). This backwash (acid reflux) can irritate the lining of your esophagus.

Laftid 5 Tablet contains ‘lafutidine’ which acts as an antacid. It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in the relief of acid-related indigestion and heartburn.

Laftid 5 Tablet must be taken in the dose and duration advised by the doctor. Based on the severity of the medical condition, your doctor may prescribe Laftid 5 Tablet to take once daily before bedtime or twice daily in the morning and before bedtime with or without food. Common side-effects of Laftid 5 Tablet are fatigue, drowsiness, headache, increased liver enzymes, constipation, increased uric acid level in the blood, diarrhea, muscle pain, protein in the urine. These side effects resolve on their own, if it persists, stop the Laftid 5 Tablet and contact your doctor immediately.

Do not take Laftid 5 Tablet if you are allergic, other H2 receptor antagonists, or any other ingredients present in it. Before taking Laftid 5 Tablet , inform your doctor if you are taking prescription or non-prescription medications, including antacids, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Inform your doctor if you have any gastrointestinal problems, kidney diseases, and liver diseases. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become a pregnant/breastfeeding woman.

• Treats Peptic Ulcers: Laftid 5 Tablet promotes healing of ulcers in the stomach (gastric ulcers) and upper intestine (duodenal ulcers) by lowering stomach acid production and protecting the stomach lining.
• Manages Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): Laftid 5 Tablet helps relieve symptoms of GERD such as heartburn, acid reflux, and chest discomfort by reducing excess stomach acid.
• Treats Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Laftid 5 Tablet is used to control excessive stomach acid production caused by tumours in the pancreas or duodenum (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome).
• Treats Gastric Mucosal Lesions: Laftid 5 Tablet stimulates production of mucin, which forms a protective layer on the stomach lining and heals damage caused by stress, excess stomach acid, or certain medications.
• Prevents Ulcer Recurrence: Laftid 5 Tablet may be prescribed to prevent ulcers and stomach damage in individuals who are on long-term non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) .

• Laftid 5 Tablet can be taken with or without food as advised by the doctor.
• Follow your doctor’s recommendations on the dosage and timing of this medication to achieve optimal results.
• Swallow Laftid 5 Tablet as a whole with a glass of water.

Laftid 5 Tablet should be used with caution in the elderly patients due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Laftid 5 Tablet should be used with caution in patients on dialysis due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Close monitoring of renal function is necessary for such patients during treatment with this medicine. Laftid 5 Tablet may cause shock and anaphylactic reactions in some patients. Report any symptoms such as pale skin, dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc. to the doctor immediately.
