About Levopraz Capsule
Levopraz Capsule is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), acidity, heartburn, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, Helicobacter pylori infection, irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion, and duodenal and gastric ulcers. The stomach is usually protected from acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, excess acid production erodes the mucous layer, which leads to acidity.
Levopraz Capsule combines two drugs: dexrabeprazole (proton pump inhibitor) and levosulpiride (prokinetic agent). Dexrabeprazole works by blocking the action of an enzyme called the gastric proton pump, which is responsible for the production of acid. Levosulpiride works by increasing the pressure of the inferior oesophageal (food pipe) sphincter, thereby preventing the backflow of food and acid into the mouth. Together, Levopraz Capsule helps prevent acid reflux, thereby relieving acidity and heartburn.
Depending on your medical condition, you are advised to take Levopraz Capsule for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you. Sometimes, you may experience common side effects, such as headache, nausea, vomiting, gas, abdominal pain, dizziness, and diarrhoea. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.
Let your doctor know if you have a history of intestinal blockage or gastrointestinal bleeding. Long-term usage of Levopraz Capsule may result in hypomagnesemia and osteoporosis. If you are pregnant or nursing, see a doctor. Drive only if you are aware since Levopraz Capsule may make you drowsy and dizzy. Levopraz Capsule is not recommended for children as safety and effectiveness have not been established. Avoid consuming alcohol along with Levopraz Capsule as it could lead to increased drowsiness and elevate stomach acid production.

Talk to your doctor if you do not feel better even after taking Levopraz Capsule for 14 days. Do not take Levopraz Capsule for longer durations unless prescribed by the doctor. If Levopraz Capsule is prescribed for longer periods, regular check-ups are advised.
Levopraz Capsule contains dexrabeprazole which might increase the risk of osteoporosis (weak and brittle bones). This mainly occurs in people taking higher doses of Levopraz Capsule for longer durations. Inform your doctor if you are at risk of osteoporosis. Your doctor may prescribe calcium and vitamin D supplements.
Dry mouth could be a side-effect of Levopraz Capsule . Limiting caffeine intake, avoiding smoking and mouthwashes that contain alcohol, drinking water regularly, and chewing sugar-free gum or candy may help stimulate saliva and prevent mouth dryness.
Levopraz Capsule starts working within 60 minutes of taking it and takes about 2-4 hours to fully take effect. Although it may take up to 4 weeks to relieve your symptoms considerably, you should begin to feel better within 2 to 3 days. If you have concerns, discuss with your doctor.
The best time to take Levopraz Capsule depends on your doctor's specific instructions. However, a common recommendation is to take it before breakfast. This helps the medication effectively reduce stomach acid production throughout the day.
Levopraz Capsule is more often used to treat gastrointestinal disorders. However, its use may be contraindicated in individuals with allergies to either the drug or its excipients, pregnant or breastfeeding women, those with gastrointestinal bleeding or obstruction, severe kidney or liver impairment, and individuals with certain medical conditions. Before using Levopraz Capsule , it's essential to consult with a healthcare professional to assess your individual situation and determine if it's safe for you.
