MESACOL 1GM SUPPOSITORIES is used to treat ulcerative colitis and ulcerative proctitis. Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation of the large intestine lining (colon). Ulcerative proctitis is a condition in which ulcerative colitis solely affects the rectum.

MESACOL 1GM SUPPOSITORIES contains Mesalazine, which works by preventing the synthesis of chemical messengers such as prostaglandins in the intestines that produce inflammation (swelling).

Sometimes, you may experience diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache or nausea. Most of these side effects of MESACOL 1GM SUPPOSITORIES do not require medical attention and typically resolve on their own over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Directions for Use

  • Follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication.

  • Before using, empty your bowels (if necessary) and wash your hands. Shake the bottle vigorously for at least 30 seconds. Remove the applicator's protective cap and hold the bottle by its top end. Lie on your left side, your left leg extended and your right leg bent. Insert the applicator (lubricant-coated) for easier entry into the rectum. Squeeze the bottle gently while holding it directed towards your navel. When the bottle is empty, remove the applicator from the rectum. Allow the drug to spread throughout the lower section of the large intestine for at least 30 minutes by remaining in this posture.
  • Wash your hands before and after applying the medicament. Ensure the rectal area is clean and dry before application.
