About Rafron Total Tablet

Rafron Total Tablet is a gastrointestinal medication, primarily used to treat nausea, vomiting, stomach ulcers, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, and erosive oesophagitis (acid-related damage to the lining of the oesophagus). Rafron Total Tablet is also used to treat infections caused by Helicobacter pylori and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. GERD is a condition that occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus). Zollinger Ellison syndrome is a rare condition in which a gastrin-secreting tumour of the pancreas causes excessive acid production leading to peptic ulcers.

Rafron Total Tablet contains two medicines: Rabeprazole and Ondansetron. Rabeprazole belongs to the group of drugs called ‘proton pump inhibitors.’ It blocks the action of the gastric proton pump that is responsible for the production of acid in the stomach. This reduces the amount of acid produced, heals the ulcers, and prevents the formation of new ulcers. Ondansetron belongs to the class of anti-emetics (prevents vomiting). It works by blocking the action of serotonin (chemical messenger) that triggers nausea and vomiting.

Diarrhoea might be a side-effect of Rafron Total Tablet . Drink lots of fluids and eat foods rich in fibre if you experience diarrhoea. If you find blood in stools (tarry stools) or experience excess diarrhoea, consult your doctor. Prolonged intake of Rafron Total Tablet is linked with a greater risk of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea, so if you develop diarrhoea that does not improve, immediately consult a doctor.

On long term treatment, Rabeprazole in Rafron Total Tablet may increase the risk of fractures of the hip, spine, and wrist. Inform your doctor if you have osteoporosis, bone-related problems, or taking any corticosteroids. Your doctor may suggest supplements like Calcium citrate and Vitamin D.

Rabeprazole in Rafron Total Tablet may cause low Vitamin B12 levels on long term usage. Your doctor may adjust the dose of Rafron Total Tablet accordingly and may also suggest Vitamin B12 supplements.

Rafron Total Tablet weakens bones and can increase the risk of fractures in elderly patients if used for long term or if taken in high doses.

Long term usage of the Rafron Total Tablet causes disturbances in liver function, B12 deficiency and changes in electrolyte (magnesium, calcium and sodium) levels. Therefore, if you experience symptoms such as yellow skin and eyes, nausea, dizziness, loss of appetite, fits, headache, itching, tiredness, pale skin, or irritability, consult your doctor immediately.
