Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's belongs to a group of medications called ‘antipsychotics’. It is used in the treatment of Schizophrenia or psychosis and Tourette Syndrome. Schizophrenia is characterized by hallucinations symptoms (seeing or hearing things that are not real) and delusions (wrong beliefs). Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's prevents the occurrence of these symptoms. Tourette syndrome is a disorder that involves repetitive movements or unwanted sounds (tics) that can't be easily controlled.
Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's contains ‘Haloperidol’, which is a typical antipsychotic drug. It works by blocking the action of dopamine, a chemical messenger in the brain that affects thoughts and mood.
Take Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side effects such as abnormality of voluntary movements, constipation, dryness in the mouth, increased prolactin level in the blood, muscle stiffness, orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure on standing), sleepiness, tremor, urinary retention, weight gain. Most of these side effects of Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if these side effects persist longer, please consult your doctor.
Do not take Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's if you are allergic to Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's or any other ingredients present in it. Tell your doctor if you or anyone in your family has ever had prolonged QT syndrome, breast cancer, bipolar disorder, citrullinemia, seizures, chest pain, thyroid disease. Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's is not recommended during pregnancy as it may affect the unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding before taking Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's. It is not recommended for use in children under 1 year of age. Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's is used with caution in neuroleptic malignant syndrome, tardive dyskinesia, dementia-related psychosis.

It is not recommended for use in children under 1 year of age. Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's is used with caution in neuroleptic malignant syndrome, tardive dyskinesia, dementia-related psychosis, Parkinson's disease, venous thromboembolism. Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's is used with caution in the elderly population due to the increased risk of orthostatic hypotension and kidney injury. Do not abruptly stop taking the Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's as it may cause withdrawal symptoms, especially suicidal thoughts in young adults. If you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's. You should know that this medication may make you drowsy and may affect your thinking and movements. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you. Ask your doctor about the safe use of alcohol during your treatment with Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's. Alcohol can make the side effects of Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's worse. You should know that name may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, and fainting when you get up too quickly from a lying position. To avoid this problem, get out of bed slowly, resting your feet on the floor for a few minutes before standing up.
Drug-drug interactions: Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's may interact with some medications, including antidepressants (citalopram, escitalopram, bupropion), medicines for Parkinson’s disease (levodopa), antiepileptic ( carbamazepine, phenobarbital), medicines control heartbeat ( amiodarone, disopyramide, quinidine), medicines used to calm emotion and mental disorder (olanzapine, prochlorperazine) antihypertensive (clonidine, guanethidine, propranolol), antibiotic (moxifloxacin), a medication used to treat mental illness (lithium), antifungals (pentamidine), antimalarials (halofantrine), gastrointestinal medicinal products (dolasetron), anti-cancer (toremifene, vandetanib), antipsychotic (thioridazine).
Drug-food interactions: Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's may interact with grapefruit and alcohol and increase the risk of side-effects.
Drug-disease interactions: Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's should be used with caution in patients with heart problems such as QT prolongation (heart rhythm problem), acute alcohol abuse, central nervous system (CNS) depression, dementia, stroke, seizures, diabetes, kidney and liver problems.
Alcohol may worsen the condition and increase the risk of side-effects while using Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's.
Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's is a category C pregnancy drug, using Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's during pregnancy may affect the unborn baby. Please consult your doctor before taking Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's if you are pregnant or planning to conceive.
Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's is known to pass through breast milk. So, it is recommended not to be taken during breastfeeding. However, your doctor may prescribe it for you during breastfeeding if he/she feels that the benefits to you outweighs the risk.
Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's may cause some cases, especially elderly patients, to become drowsy, dizzy, light-headed, clumsy, unsteady, or less alert than normal. If you are affected, do not drive or operate dangerous machinery after taking Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's.
Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's should be used with caution in patients with liver diseases. Dose adjustments may be necessary.
Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's should be used with caution in patients with kidney diseases. Dose adjustments may be necessary.
Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's is not recommended for children below 1 year of age. However, please consult a doctor before giving Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's to children.

Common side effects of Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's include Abnormality of voluntary movements feeling agitated, depression, difficulty sleeping, problems with vision, such as blurred vision, headache, constipation, dry mouth or increased saliva, increased prolactin level in the blood, muscle stiffness, orthostatic hypotension (sudden lowering of blood pressure on standing), sleepiness, difficulty getting and keeping an erection (impotence), tremor, urinary retention, changes that show up in blood tests of the liver, weight gain. Most of these side effects of Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if these side effects persist longer, please consult your doctor.
You are not recommended to stop taking Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's without consulting your doctor. It may cause withdrawal symptoms such as palpitations (the sensation that heart skipped a beat or extra beat), anxiety, confusion, difficulty sleeping and tremors. Therefore, take Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's for as long as your doctor has prescribed it, and if you experience any difficulty while taking Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's, please consult your doctor so that the dose may be gradually reduced.
Long-term use of Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's may cause dyskinesia (a movement disorder) in some cases. However, your doctor prescribes this medication if the benefits outweigh the risks.
Serenace 0.25 Tablet 20's is not recommended in patients with dementia-related psychosis as it increases the risk of heart diseases like heart failure and infectious diseases like pneumonia. An alternate medicine should be considered based on the clinical condition.
