About Tolfen Capsule

Tolfen Capsule is used to relieve signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis of the hip and knee. Osteoarthritis is a joint disease in which the two ends of the joints come together due to the breakdown of a protective covering called cartilage.

Tolfen Capsule contains Polmacoxib, which works by inhibiting certain enzyme in the body involved in producing certain chemical substances called prostaglandins that cause pain and swelling. Thus, it helps relieve pain and swelling.

Take Tolfen Capsule as prescribed. Tolfen Capsule may cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, heartburn, dizziness, stomach pain, gas, constipation or diarrhoea. If the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to any of the components in Tolfen Capsule , please tell your doctor. Tolfen Capsule is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition and medications to prevent any interactions.

How Tolfen Capsule Works

Tolfen Capsule contains Polmacoxib, which works by inhibiting the cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme in the body. This enzyme is involved in producing certain chemical substances called prostaglandins that cause pain and swelling. Thus, it helps relieve pain and swelling.
Side effects of Tolfen Capsule
  • Wear compression garments like stockings, sleeves, or gloves to apply pressure and help stop fluid from building up, especially after the swelling goes down.
  • Move around and do exercises to help the fluid circulate, especially in swollen limbs. Ask your doctor for specific exercises.
  • Raise the swollen area above your heart level several times a day, even while sleeping, to help reduce swelling.
  • Gently massage the swollen area with firm but not painful pressure.
  • Keep the swollen area clean and moisturized to prevent injury and infection.
  • Reduce salt intake to help prevent fluid from building up and worsening the swelling, as advised by a doctor.
  • If the swelling does not get better after a few days of home treatment or worsens, consult your doctor right away.
  • Reduce salt intake to minimize fluid buildup.
  • Use compression stockings, sleeves, or gloves.
  • Gently massage the affected area towards the heart.
  • Protect the swollen area from injury and keep it clean.
  • Use lotion or cream to keep the skin moisturized.

What if I have taken an overdose of Tolfen Capsule

An overdose of Tolfen Capsule may cause large pupils, warm, dry skin, flushed face, fever, dry mouth, fast or irregular heartbeat, anxiety, hallucinations, confusion, agitation, hyperactivity, loss of consciousness, and seizures. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience these symptoms or think you might have taken too much.

Drug Warnings

  • If you are allergic to polmacoxib, aspirin, or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, please tell your doctor.
  • Tolfen Capsule is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
  • Tolfen Capsule should be used with caution in patients with diabetes, bronchial asthma, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, history of oedema, peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding.
  • Patients with uncontrolled high blood pressure should avoid taking Tolfen Capsule as it may worsen the condition.
  • If you have slurred speech, chest pain, weakness, or shortness of breath while taking Tolfen Capsule , consult a doctor immediately, as these might be symptoms of cardiovascular toxicity.
  • Elderly patients should use Tolfen Capsule with caution as they may be at greater risk for serious gastrointestinal adverse effects such as intestinal or gastric bleeding, perforation and ulceration.
