About Tussol-Plus Syrup
Tussol-Plus Syrup is used to treat cough associated with mucus and cold. Coughing (dry or productive) is the body's way of clearing irritants (like allergens, mucus, or smoke) from airways and preventing infection. There are two types of coughs: Dry cough and chesty cough. A dry cough is tickly and doesn't produce any vicious or thick mucus, while a chesty cough (wet cough) means mucous or sputum is produced to help clear your airways.
Tussol-Plus Syrup is a combination of four drugs, namely: Ambroxol (mucolytic agent), Chlorpheniramine maleate (antihistamine), Guaifenesin (expectorant), and Phenylephrine (decongestant). Ambroxol works by thinning and loosening phlegm (mucus) in the lungs, windpipe, and nasal passage. Chlorpheniramine maleate works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance responsible for causing allergic reactions. Guaifenesin works by reducing the stickiness of mucus and helps to remove it from the airways. Phenylephrine works by contracting and narrowing the blood vessels. It provides relief from the chest and nasal congestion, thereby decreasing mucus production.
Take Tussol-Plus Syrup as prescribed. You are advised to take Tussol-Plus Syrup for as long as your doctor has prescribed it based on your medical condition. Tussol-Plus Syrup may cause common side effects such as drowsiness, headache, dizziness, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting or stomach upset. Most of these side effects of Tussol-Plus Syrup do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
Please tell your doctor if you are allergic to ambroxol, chlorpheniramine, guaifenesin, phenylephrine, or any other medicines. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using Tussol-Plus Syrup . Drive only if you are alert after taking Tussol-Plus Syrup as it may cause blurred vision or impair thinking in some people. Drink plenty of fluids while taking Tussol-Plus Syrup to loosen mucus.
