Cracked and dry lips commonly happen due to cold weather, dehydration, frequent mouth breathing, sun exposure, or repeated licking of the lips. Jogging in cold or windy weather can increase moisture loss from the lips, so the problem may continue even if you drink water afterwards. Dry lips may also become more painful if the skin barrier gets damaged repeatedly. Applying a thick moisturising lip balm or plain petroleum jelly several times a day, especially before jogging and before sleep, may help protect and heal the lips. Try to avoid licking or peeling the dry skin because this can worsen cracking and irritation. Drinking enough water throughout the day, not just after jogging, may also help maintain hydration better. Using a scarf or mask while jogging in cold air may reduce direct dryness from wind exposure. Please consult a doctor if the lips develop bleeding, swelling, severe pain, infection, or cracks at the corners of the mouth that do not heal, as vitamin deficiency, allergy, or skin conditions may sometimes contribute.
