Dersol 18% Ointment is used for peeling and shedding the outer layer of the skin in the condition of acne (pimple) and psoriasis. It contains Salicylic acid, which reduces inflammation (swelling and redness) and unplugs blocked skin pores to allow pimples to shrink. It increases the turnover rate of upper skin cells, which eventually helps in peeling and shedding off the dead skin, thereby treating comedones (skin-coloured, small bumps due to acne). It may cause common side effects such as dry skin, erythema (skin redness), burning sensation, skin irritation and skin rash. Before using this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions.
