About Dulcolax Children Suppository

Dulcolax Children Suppository is used to treat occasional constipation. It may also be used to empty the bowels before surgery or certain medical procedures. Constipation refers to infrequent bowel movements. In this condition, the stools are often dry, painful and hard to pass.

Dulcolax Children Suppository contains Bisacodyl, which increases intestinal activity, facilitating a bowel movement. Thereby, Dulcolax Children Suppository helps treat constipation.

In some cases, Dulcolax Children Suppository may cause side effects such as diarrhoea, abdominal pain or cramps, rectal inflammation, or irritation. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

Do not use Dulcolax Children Suppository for more than a week, as it might cause dependency on Dulcolax Children Suppository for bowel movement. Consult your doctor before using Dulcolax Children Suppository if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The detailed uses of Dulcolax Children Suppository are as follows:<br/>• Relief of Constipation: Acts quickly (usually within 15–60 minutes) to induce a bowel movement by stimulating the muscles of the intestine. Used when a fast response is needed (e.g., for painful constipation or impaction). <br/>• Bowel Preparation Before Medical Procedures: Commonly used before colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, or bowel surgery. Helps empty the bowel completely for a clear view during examination.<br/>• Treatment of Faecal Impaction: Softens and stimulates evacuation in cases of hard, impacted stool, especially in children, the elderly, or patients who are bedridden.

Directions for Use

• It is advised to use Dulcolax Children Suppository once daily in the morning; however, follow your doctor's advice regarding the dosage and duration.• Lie down on your left side and raise your right knee to the chest. Remove the wrapper and insert the pointed end of the suppository into the rectum.• Keep lying down for about 15 minutes after insertion to prevent the suppository from sliding.

What if I have taken an overdose of Dulcolax Children Suppository

Use Dulcolax Children Suppository as directed by your doctor. A bisacodyl overdose can cause diarrhea, which can result in electrolyte imbalances such as hypokalemia, hypocalcemia, metabolic acidosis, or alkalosis. It can also cause nausea, vomiting, and muscle weakness. Seek medical help if an overdose is suspected.

Drug Warnings

Do not use Dulcolax Children Suppository if you are allergic to any of its contents, if you have an intestinal obstruction, severe dehydration, acute abdominal conditions requiring surgery or in conditions where the diagnosis is uncertain. Inform your doctor if you have a bowel obstruction, inflammatory bowel disease, anal fissures, piles, or rectal bleeding. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Dulcolax Children Suppository should be used in children only if advised by the doctor. Notify your doctor if you have nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, or a sudden change in bowel movement lasting for more than 2 weeks.

  • Stay hydrated, drink enough water and fluids.
  • Exercise regularly and stay fit.
  • Get enough sleep.
  • Try to make time to empty your bowels whenever your body tells you to.
  • Eat food rich in fibre such as whole-wheat bread, oatmeal, flax seed, nuts, beans, lentils, fruits (berries, apples, oranges, bananas, pears, figs) and vegetables (broccoli, spinach, sweet potatoes, avocados).
