My child has been passing green-colored stools for the past 5 days. Is this normal, or should I be concerned?

Green-colored stools in children are often normal and can happen due to diet (green vegetables, iron supplements), faster movement of stool through the intestines, or mild infections. If your child is otherwise active, feeding well, and has no fever, vomiting, or dehydration, it is usually not a cause for concern and settles on its own. Make sure your child stays well hydrated and continues a normal, balanced diet, but monitor for warning signs such as persistent diarrhoea, foul smell, mucus or blood in stool, poor feeding, weight loss, fever, or lethargy; if any of these are present or if the green stools continue beyond a week, it is best to consult a paediatrician for evaluation.
What should be done for loose motions in a 5-month-old baby? Is Enterogermina safe to use, and how should it be given?
G.santoshini Reddy
M Pharmacy (Pharmaceutics)
Loose motions in a 5-month-old baby should be managed mainly by preventing dehydration, continuing breastfeeding frequently (do not stop feeds), and, if advised by a doctor, giving small, frequent amounts of oral rehydration solution (ORS). Avoid giving any home remedies or over-the-counter medicines on your own. Enterogermina is a probiotic that can help restore healthy gut bacteria and is generally safe for infants, but it should only be used if prescribed by a paediatrician, who will guide the exact dose and how to give it (usually the liquid vial can be given directly or mixed with a little milk). Closely watch for signs such as reduced urine, excessive sleepiness, persistent vomiting, fever, or blood in stools, and seek medical care immediately if any of these appear or if diarrhoea lasts more than 1-2 days.
I have had 8 to 10 episodes of green loose motions this week. I took half a vial of Enterogermina Suspension twice daily for three days. Is there any other remedy to help me improve?
Dr. S Aneela

Green loose motions are usually caused by a stomach infection or rapid bowel movement. Keep yourself well hydrated with oral rehydration solution, avoid oily or spicy foods, and eat light meals such as rice, bananas, toast, and curd. If your symptoms persist or worsen, or if you feel weak or dehydrated, please consult a doctor for proper assessment and treatment.
