About Folgod-Active Tablet

Folgod-Active Tablet is used to treat or prevent anemia (lack of blood) caused by folic acid deficiency, anaemia in pregnancy, anaemia due to damaged red blood cells, anaemia in kidney dialysis patients. Anemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to various body tissues.

Folgod-Active Tablet contains Folic acid (a form of vitamin B9) that increases healthy red blood cell (RBC) production in the body and carries oxygen throughout the body.

You may experience certain side effects like nausea, black stool, constipation, loss of appetite, bloating or flatulence (gas) in some cases. Most of these side effects of Folgod-Active Tablet do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Folgod-Active Tablet or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a doctor before using Folgod-Active Tablet . Folgod-Active Tablet should be used with caution in children and only if recommended by a doctor. Inform your doctor if you have a stomach ulcer, vitamin B12 deficiency, any blood disorder, repeated blood transfusions, ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the colon), pernicious anemia (anemia due to lack of vitamin B12) or a folate-dependent tumor before taking Folgod-Active Tablet .

Folgod-Active Tablet is used in the treatment of anaemia. The detailed uses of Folgod-Active Tablet are as follows:

  • Prevention of Neural Tube Defects: Folgod-Active Tablet is commonly taken by pregnant women to lower the risk of neural tube defects in the developing fetus. Adequate folic acid intake is essential during pregnancy for proper fetal growth and development.

What if I have taken an overdose of Folgod-Active Tablet

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Eat a healthy diet, especially green leafy vegetables, and do regular physical exercise.
  • Limit junk food items from outside and stick to freshly prepared home-cooked meals.
  • Eat cabbage, spinach, broccoli, asparagus, kale, brussels sprouts, lentils, peas, and beans. Also include beef and yeast extracts, poultry, liver, shellfish, and pork.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
  • Avoid consumption of alcohol.

How Soon It Starts Working

  • The time required for Folgod-Active Tablet to start to work: Folgod-Active Tablet ideally shows its action within 15 to 30 minutes after administration. 
  • The time for which the effects of Folgod-Active Tablet last: The effect of Folgod-Active Tablet lasts for 24 hours.

Storage

• Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight.• Keep Folgod-Active Tablet out of reach and sight of children. • Non cold chain - To be stored in cool places at 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.

What if you forget to take Folgod-Active Tablet

If you miss a dose of Folgod-Active Tablet , take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.

Drug Warnings

  • If you are allergic to Folgod-Active Tablet or any other medicines, please tell your doctor.
  • Avoid taking Folgod-Active Tablet if you have cancer.
  • Folgod-Active Tablet should be used with caution in children and only if recommended by a doctor.
  • If you are breastfeeding, please consult a doctor before using Folgod-Active Tablet .
  • Inform your doctor if you have pernicious anaemia (anaemia due to lack of vitamin B12), a tumour or if you are receiving a stent in the heart or undergoing haemodialysis due to kidney failure, before taking Folgod-Active Tablet .
  • You are recommended to maintain a time gap of a minimum of 2 hours between taking Folgod-Active Tablet and indigestion remedies such as antacids containing magnesium or aluminium and edible clay.
  • Inform your doctor if you are allergic to any sugars as Folgod-Active Tablet contains lactose.

Drug-Drug Interaction: Folgod-Active Tablet may have interaction with anticonvulsants (phenobarbital, primidone, phenytoin), antibiotics (trimethoprim), high cholesterol-lowering medicine (cholestyramine), anti-inflammatory drugs (sulfasalazine), anticancer drug (fluorouracil).

Drug-Food Interaction: Inform your doctor if you are taking any zinc supplements or medicines containing zinc.

How does the drug interact with Folgod-Active Tablet:
Coadministration of Folgod-Active Tablet and Fluorouracil may increase the effects of Fluorouracil and increase the risk of serious side effects such as bleeding problems, anaemia (lack of blood), infections, and nerve damage.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is a possible interaction between Folgod-Active Tablet and Fluorouracil, you can take these medicines together if prescribed by your doctor. However, if you experience diarrhoea, paleness of skin, severe nausea and vomiting, over-tiredness, dizziness, fainting, blood in the stools, unusual bleeding or bruising, fever, chills, body pains, flu-like symptoms, skin reactions, mouth ulcers or sores, and/or numbness, burning or tingling in your hands and feet, contact your doctor.

You are not recommended to take Folgod-Active Tablet with phenytoin as co-administration of these two medicines may reduce the levels of Folgod-Active Tablet in blood and increase the risk of seizures (fits). Folgod-Active Tablet should be used with caution and in doses as advised by a doctor in dialysis patients or end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or kidney failure. However, it is advised to inform your doctor if you are undergoing dialysis before taking Folgod-Active Tablet .
Folgod-Active Tablet is recommended during pregnancy to maintain correct levels of folic acid and reduce the risk of neural tube defects such as spina bifida (abnormality of the spine) in babies, usually caused due to folic acid deficiency. Folgod-Active Tablet helps in the development of the brain and spinal cord in the unborn baby. However, please consult a doctor if you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy before using Folgod-Active Tablet .
You are recommended to consult a doctor before taking Folgod-Active Tablet with other vitamins or supplements.
